Is there a resource that specifies what factions start with, and get for free, what tech? I'm looking for something a little more specific than the academy stuff.

For instance, I know GigaCorp has to buy most of its level 1 tech, like cloak 1 and dis1; but on the other hand there's another faction (Bios I think?) that seems to get its base advances free. So, as an intermediate to high level player I was wondering if there is somewhere a specific list.

I looked at BackTrak's Tech Tree; it's got the information but I was hoping for something a little more compact? Like an excel spreadsheet maybe.

I'm not sure about specific informations, but when you play enough, you get to learn them.

Most factions are kinda the same though.

here's some for a start:

Bios
-starts with HC1 and minepack1.
-Starts with adv tech bases

Giga
-Starts with enh miners and cons
-Must research light booster, booster 1, disruptor 1, cloak 1, nukes 1 and skycap 1

GT
-Must buy a palisade to upgrade a tech base.

I think I heard you asking this in game yesterday - it is a good question and I don't know of anywhere that lists all these sort of differences in a concise manner. So here's a couple more for you.

IC
- gets enh level ship free with tech base, or to spell that out more clearly, when you buy a supremacy you instantly get enh figs, an exp gives you ints and a tac gives you stealth fighters. With most other factions, you have to buy these ships.

Bios and TF
- get light interceptors for free when you buy an exp, and light stealth fighters for free when you build a tac.

As regards starting ships - every faction has scouts to start with. In addition, IC and dreg get light interceptors, giga and TF get no other ship and all the other factions get a fighter.

Grabbed tech is the same for all factions, you will find a lot of goodies along with money like:

Good if you go tac:

Lrm hunter 2
sniper1
utlcan2

Good when bombing:

aleph res
retro booster

Good for sup (figs):

booster1
gat gun 2
dumbfire2

Good for everything:

ew probe2
prox mine2

And a lot more goodies I don't remind now like silly missiles 2 etc.

High level player and a good comm with a 30% win rate? It's just so much funny I can't laugh.

...dude. Intermediate to high level player? I'm sorry but while these questions may aid actual gameplay, after watching and flying for you a great many times you are not up to the stage where you should be considering commanding yet.

Also, all this is on the Academy. Please read all of it because it is what the old ACS used to look like and offers many a great faction specific strategy.

Other than that, please don't command primetime games because it is quite painful. Like buying a techbase after the twenty minute mark.

Direstorm = Dire Merc?

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
