Just dropping some input on these as my girl was playing them the other day to check out the game. Really like the new training missiones and think they are a great help.

I forget the training mission number its the one where you have to kill a miner and then protect your con coming into the sector.

She was getting rather frustrated at the end, when you had to defend your con from a scout with an Sfig, with utils and no missiles. One most new pilots doing the training missions don't know about all the side thrusters and back thrusting. She would turn to fight the Sfig and it would constantly outmanuver her because of this and she could never get it in her gunsights and it just continually podded her. When she got fed up I was able to do it but only by putting some distance between us and then circle strafe fighting in an Sfig, I feel dirty!

That and the Scout would follow you even if you cloaked and lost eye. I recomended her trying this when she could never get bearings on it, to just cloak, move away and fight like a stealth fighter, even though she has no missiles. But the scout sees you even if you loose eye.

Once this was all said and done I killed the scout for her and there was nothing more, space bar didn't advance the mission, the con just sat idle in space etc... Not sure if this is a bug or intentional but were confused as to what the objectives were after that.

A bug I've met with:

- In the nanning mission, all things took place fairly suitable up to the time we commenced the bombing of the enemy outpost. The friendly bomber approached the BIOS outpost and began to fire upon it with AB stingers. The hull of the small expanding base was forced down to 1%. After the hull was reduced to that amount I felt awkward. The base wouldn't explode. I proceeded to nan continuously hoping the base would ultimatly give in but the friendly bomber just maintained the action of discharging AB towards the base. Other actions in the mission were nonexistant. I was forced to nan and die time and time again due to the relentless agression of the enemy defenders. Soon after I resigned the training, knowing I had no chance to prevail over an enemy with invincible stations.

Does anybody have ideas on what could have sparked such an interesting event?

Regardless of any possible bugs, the training is quite informative and helpful. 10/10!

i was messing with the nanning mission today as well, i had exactly the same problem, the base isn't destroyed and the bomber just keeps firing.

the fig attacking the bomber ran out of ammo and ended up ramming it constantly from 1m away, which was a bit pathetic.

i ended up killing the fig attacking me cos it was annoying.

other than invincible bases and enemies that refuse to refuel its damn good.

The nanning mission was a bit experimental. I worked on it along with a few others. It wasn't 100% ready but needed to get put in. I think I put some kind of message saying that you encounter bugs or I meant to but maybe I never gave that to anyone to put on autoupdate.

I know the difficulty needs to be worked on for sure. Now as far as the base not dying, this happened more once or multiple times? If just once I may not be too worried. If I remember right the offline training missions have no support for bases being destroyed. The training mission just checks to see if the hull is at 0 to trigger the mission being complete. I do think I coded in something that would make it explode or disappear on my own when it reaches 0 hull.

(All other training missions are from Microsoft. New missions will hopefully be released in the future)

edit: I see Finn has the same problem, strange. I guess I'll try to look into fixing it eventually (don't have any time now, probably this summer). Maybe I'll try to get a warning message in the briefing before the mission starts if I don't already.

just a guess, what would happen if the hull reaches 3hp and the bomber tried to do 4 damage in one go? it wouldn't reach 0 (it would reach -1) and if theres something writen in to make sure bases can't reach negative, and would instead leave hp as it is and trigger death, it might fool your code in that circumstance.

i expect you've thought of that, but i thought it might be worth mentioning.

I'm not even sure what the code checks for exactly at the moment. I'd have to look again. I never experienced this myself in a lot of testing back when I did this so never thought about it before.

I just browsed through the code quickly. Not sure what is up from looking at it. I'll probably try to set it to a < some very low hp but not 0 and run some tests.

The bomber just keeps shooting over and over again with the base at 0 hull? But the figs are still attacking it right?

yes, it keeps shooting. by the end the figs are just ramming it over and over when they run out of ammo.
