It's a disease.
...
It's a plague.
...
It's a sickness.
And it's detroying pick-up games and discouraging more people from commanding every day.
There is no I in Team. The ME is a part of ME And Them (TEAM backwards). Why do you rush off into a 9 man bomb run to die instead of camping the aleph with the rest of the team, and end up pulling the rest of the team with you because you're a "vet" (I don't think I've ever meant for a word to be used that sarcastically) and they end up flying to their demise and the demise of the techbase? Why do you launch in a fighter to defend a miner if you can't even hit a stationary probe? Why do you DM in an obsolete sector while they bomb a critical one?
In the words of Travis Touchdown "couldn't tell if they were "the @#(!"... or just plain old @#(!."
Until you reach Angel/OA, glorified whore, god-of-allegiance status, where you can do anything and I won't have to question what you're doing because I'll assume it must be for the greater good, listen to the commander, AND STICK WITH YOUR TEAM.
I don't care if you're a friend, I don't care if you're the voob's hero, I don't care if your squad is going to whine and cry. I'm publically drawing the line here and now.
I'm going to boot everyone I see attempting to be a hero.
No More Heroes.
You jumped on this horse about 15 months after the rest of us.
Welcome though
Welcome though
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
Not true, remember the multiple discussions we had on TS about all the crap that all different sorts of pilots were pulling? There was a slight recession where things were better for a month or two, but now its back with a vengeance. So I decided this would hopefully put a dent in this problem.spideycw wrote:QUOTE (spideycw @ Feb 26 2008, 02:23 PM) You jumped on this horse about 15 months after the rest of us.

And if you don't dent it then you still get to say you're one of the people who tried to stop it.Drizzo wrote:QUOTE (Drizzo @ Feb 26 2008, 11:28 AM) Not true, remember the multiple discussions we had on TS about all the crap that all different sorts of pilots were pulling? Think of how much better it looks if you at least try to stop the one thing that everybody hates.

Personally I think a bigger problem is players who undermine the commander. Questioning every decision, not with helpful advice but belittlement and moaning. They bitch about the commander on allchat, leading to an irreversible player deficit, not to mention permanent damage to the commander's rep. They badmouth other pilots, bullying the rest of the team into silence.
I call these players asshats. Since the board is going to censor that, I will tell you that I call these players headware for the nether regions, buttock-top accessories, fedoras of funk. Asshats. I use unpleasant, slightly humorous terminology because it is attention-getting. (Actually I think I stole the term. I'm not sure.)
Allegiance requires teamwork and focus. This requires leadership. Leadership, however, is impotent without consensus. Asshattery breaks consensus, destroying the possibility of teamwork, and completely misplaces the focus of the game.
Shut up the asshats. You will find that good, under-established commanders regain their respect, the team regains its consensus, its cohesion, its pleasantness. And suddenly the real heroes - the guys who take charge of bomb runs, sit with miners all game long, and so on - will have the responsive teams that they deserve.

But Quackums, he's not talking about asshats. He's talking about pilots who think they're gifts from god in an interceptor. It's a vooby disease, and quite common with n00bs. Nothing like a v00b who launches in an int to D a miner when they can't even kill a scout to save their lives. Add 7 of these voobs to your team and you have a teeth pulling-like experience.

Like I said, I think the two are related. The voobs will fall in line if they respect the commander. Think about games where the voobs actually work together. What is the deciding factor? The commander either has the respect of the audience or COMMANDS it. You can't do that with some asshat yapping on about how much you suck.

Don't forget you also get a dead minerMr. Kltplzyxm wrote:QUOTE (Mr. Kltplzyxm @ Feb 26 2008, 06:44 PM) But Quackums, he's not talking about asshats.
