Hi guys. I want to make a sound pack in which i replace common alleg sounds (missile lock, missile launch, guns firing, etc) with analogs coming from the game Descent, which I have in wav format. Regarding this I have a few questions:

-To pull this off will I just have to replace the ogg soundfiles currenly in the artwork folder for the ones i want replaced (ie. i locate missile lock file, erase it, convert my descent wav -> ogg and rename it to match prior soundfile name)? Or will this cause Critical failures a la CrashGuard? I don't want to be Alleg's new bane, so pardon the newbie question.
-Are there any developers (eg. Noir) I would have to ask permission to to replace some sounds (ie. Phx laser cannon sounds, since Phx is Noir's property)?
-Any guidelines regarding what can and can't be modded for legal or otherwise reasons? For instance, will I get in trouble for using Descent sounds? Has any of the chatpack developers (eg. Family Guy) gotten some sort of legal response?

That is all for now. I look forward to any answers so I can pull this off. I'm very nostalgic about Descent and Alleg reminds me a lot (despite the wide open vs enclosed ambiances) so I really want to do this; it's pretty much a flick of a switch now.

Erasing the files, converting yours to ogg and giving them the right filename will work.

Alternatively, you can use .wav's (ms alleg did) but you may need to edit sounddef to point to the right filenames.

I heard the Star Wars core is being developed, but I can't seem to find Star Wars sounds in the \artwork directory?

Cool, do they need to be the exact same length or anything?

Nope, just name them EXACTLY the same. When you are finished, you can send them to
(my forum user name)@mesialonline.com
if you would like me to add them to my site. (as long as the attachment is under 50megs)

What are the different sound trigger events to use as a reference?
