I was just thinking - What would a Squad Game on the Star Wars or the Battlestar Galactica core be like? I'm pretty sure that the Star Wars core would be somewhat similar to a normal Squad game but with Star Wars stuff - But what about the Battlestar Galactica core? Gameplay there is quite different from standard Allegiance, along with the stations having completely different tech paths than normal ones.

Would any squad be interested in doing something like this? Or even doing a 'Squad game thursday' on one of these cores? I'd push for the Battlestar Galactica core, not only because it is mine, but because it is so different. Although it being mine is a good thing as well

Allegiance squads fear and detest that which is too different from their beloved cores. Look at the popularity of EoR, for example. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

oh, I know. I've not played EoR enough to know how it works, but I'm pretty sure that this might fall into a different category - As it is not 'Allegiance' except through the game.

Hell, if we do a BSG Core game, I'll comm the colonials.

Idk, I think the newer the squad, the more different the core they'd be willing to accept. If we ignore (and its kind of a stretch) which squads developed which cores; RT likes EoR, and they're a newer squad (relatively speaking), and other more recent squads (XT/WC/SysX/RT/SF) prefer DN, which is very different from vanilla allegiance, where older squads (BS/GB/PK) mostly prefer classic cores.

The thing is, SW is fairly predictable with only 2 factions, and BSG while fun is 'out there' much like EoR. I like all 3 mind you.

SG's are played typically on balanced and playtested cores, that pretty much leaves you with DN/GoD/PC, and VoS is coming up too in time.

Variety is the spice of life, but, not all spices are good with wine and cheese. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Before I had to hurriedly depart from IRC, Bull said it was a good idea for a squad practice or scrimmage, as it's different and makes the people think differently. And the more the person thinks differently, the more flexible and less predictable they are. And in any combat situation, if you are predictable, you end up dieing really fast.

Oh, and to quote the convo:

EoR is a lot more Allegiance than the Star Wars core and probably the BSG one as well.

Replace with 'the BSG core' and it'll come out better

Why not try BSG or star wars. It could be funny to try them in a more serious way.

This is what ASLs are for. I suggest you advocate more forcefully to your ASL that you (and make sure you speak for the rest of your squaddies and not just you alone) would like a game on a different core in the OC*, as that is where the matches are decided. Gameplay forum has the possibility of degenerating into core wars, flaming, etc.

Just a friendly warning.
