As for the HUD I think you should make it minimal, as Im assuming its a FPS too.
Perhaps the Hud info in the right corner, and the inventory toggle able?

i was thinking about making the:
mini-map
inventory
player info
all togglable.
and yeah we could move the health ect. about!
