Has anyone been able to get Allegiance (client) working under WINE?

I do remember reading some old topics saying it couldn't be done... However bot Allegiance and Wine have been through a couple revisions since then. I've managed to get it (and all the support stuff, ie .net framework) installed in WINE, it just crashes outright when I attempt to run it.

One can run Allegiance in Wine as far as I know, but ASGS wont work as it needs access to the hardware in a way that Linux does not allow it to.

I thought that since the source code was available, you could build alleg for linux, it's just that ASGS doesn't work on linux.

Both Grimm and Andon are correct. Just to be more specific: .NET Framework won't work under WINE, thus ASGS (which is .NET based app) won't run either. This means you can launh allegiance.exe in your Alleg directory under WINE, but all you can do after that is play training missions (you won't be able to connect to lobby without the ASGS authentication).

with the upgrading to 2.0 framework will we still have problems? I used the .net framework 2.0 on WINE and it works perfectly.

Can someone who has the knowledge / time make a WINE script for ASGS / Alleg so we can play ?

I would but i'm afraid im not that good at making WINE apps yet

I guess Mono will not help ASGS running, huh? :/

Well, yeah, playing Alleg as root doesn't sound like a nice compromise but it's still better than nothing.

It is not .net that is the problem, I believe, it's the access to the hardware

iirc, ASGS will not run under any form of emulation or VM because it provides a means to circumvent the authentication system.

I'd like allegiance to run on linux as much as the next guy, but it's not going to happen without coming up with an effective replacement authentication system.

The beta lobby is usually running in a mode that does not require ASGS. A sub group of players, all running under WINE could give it a try. LAN games should also work. Personally I have not tried either.

Wine seems perpetually stuck in 'beta' as they have yet to release a 1.x.x version. But if it works for your particular app more power to 'em.
