I put this in another thread but realised it was a tiny bit too big to be a reply, plus it has more in it than i had to put for explaining sectors, i guess it just grew /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I dunno how good this is as a storyline idea, but it explains some things, is moderately interesting (i think) and actually fits with the current storyline pretty well, making it seem more like a new chapter than a poorly thought out add-on (not saying it is currently, just that it could be)
WARNING - LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry mrgreen.gif)
The whole thing is set on an apocalyptic Earth. The story is that Earth was destroyed by the quantus, an advanced race that were in fact the creators of the alephs used throughout the original game (thats why we discovered the first aleph so close to when Earth was destroyed - it was actually brand new).
History of the Quantus (quite long, jump ahead if you want, its not too important for the basic idea)
The Quantus came into existence on a world with very little sunlight due to thick atmosphere, but high radiation levels (the energy their species lives on is derived from radiation, unlike ours which is originally light energy from the sun). Their planet was a very massive world which had come into existence when 2 planets collided, one of which contained life. The life managed to survive the collision and adapted to the lightlessness, radiation rich environment, eventually producing the Quantus. The Quantus advanced quickly, soon discovering that a whole universe existed beyond their thick, impenetrable atmosphere. Due to the high levels of gravity, they didn't originally use rocket technology, but instead used alephs to escape the gravitational field. They began to create a network of alephs which they hoped would one day cover the galaxy with alephs but they flew into the realms of the Dreghklar Empire which used the freedom that this system gave to systematically destroy the quantus. The technology used by the Quantus was not aggressive, they rarely fought amongst themselves and had never met another race. The Quantus home world was destroyed early, as this is the normal tactic employed by the Dreghklar. Those that survived came to the conclusion that they must fight and should nev
er trust other races, who would only try to exploit them. They tried to escape by creating a maze of alephs in one area of the galaxy they had yet to explore, they continued to search for a new home, a world with the high levels of carbon, oxygen and organic compounds they were used to, but the thick radioactive atmosphere to match. They soon discovered that the area they had hidden in was almost devoid of life, and that the chance of finding a planet right for them was 0. So they decided they must find any life bearing world they can and convert it to their needs.
Attack on Earth
After almost 30 years, they received a Radio signal from a solar system which was quickly discovered to have a perfect planet, the third one. Despite their hatred of the other races which had so nearly destroyed them and their desperation to find a world which they could live on, they had misgivings about destroying an intelligent race, especially since it would be such a similar attack to the one that devastated them.
The misgivings ceased when they began decoding the messages. War. Famine. Death. The race inhabiting the planet "Earth" was a monstrous one! It was killing itself so effectively, they could not see their intervention doing anything more than speeding up the inevitable. Nonetheless, they decided to make their attack on "humanity" as non-destructive as they could, this was done by ensuring that the human race never find out the attack occurred from outside (as this would lead to a war). They used the humans rocket technology against itself, beginning the conversion of Earth to a more habitable planet, after the planet was cleared of the larger lifeforms, they moved in through a surface aleph (a technology used on their home world) and created large shielded domes to protect them from the ravaged planet (radiation isn't the only side-affect of being hit by an asteroid). they built these havens as they became known all over the planet (avoiding the northern hemisphere to some extent after discovering that some of the humans had survived in bunkers (phoenix) designed to protect themselves from weapons (something that the Quantus had never anticipated). The Quantus began to replace the atmosphere at a careful rate, the humans should just assume that the impact from the asteroid is causing the atmospheric anomalies. They also planned to crash the planet into the second of the systems planets (Venus) to both improve the atmosphere and increase the mass.
The discovery
Umm... im starting to run out of creativity now so just think along the lines of people getting a bit worried when earth starts meandering about towards Venus.
Then they find out that the 1000 years to never estimate for earth becoming stable again is only because of the Quantus pumping gasses into it, and if the Quantus are killed it could recover to some extent in just 20 years, with some help.
What this means:
unprotected soldiers die from radiation (except Quantus) - pods (Quantus use infantry more and being podded isn't a disaster)
shielded havens connected with alephs - alephs and sectors
he3 around (brought in from space by the Quantus to fuel the Terra-forming process) - he3
anyone who read all that is either leading a boring life or they have work they should be doing smile.gif (yes, i wrote this instead of homework)
Storyline
*sigh*
I guess I really only have myself to blame.
Thanks for your effort Finn Bryant, but thereis already a storyline for Quantus, there has always been one even before the name arose and the forums were created. I havent really publicised it since the move to our new forums, but it was on the original thread.
Also, seeing as I've already said this to about a gazillion people who evidently dont know the original Allegiance storyline, and yes, this is going to be an Allegiance based game...
EARTH HAS BEEN DESTROYED.
It doesnt even exist in the current Allegiance game, how could it possibly do so in the future of Allegiance.
And by destroyed, I dont mean that the whole planet is just craters and desert. I mean destroyed as in the crust of the earth has actually cracked open and the atmosphere is negligible.
Once again, I'm really sorry you went to that effort to make a story line for the game, which is actually a good story in itself but it just doesnt fit. I'll put it in the FanFic section or see if I can even get it into the Academy fanfic.

Aye - here we come again to the problem that we there is no 'official' story guideline (..as mentioned in other threads) to avoid these sort of 'traps' for authors.Cadillac wrote:QUOTE (Cadillac @ Jun 29 2007, 06:58 AM) EARTH HAS BEEN DESTROYED.

But to Earth - destroyed != destroyed
QUOTE 2140
March 13 -- Disaster strikes. An asteroid, fired at a Lunar catching station by one of the remaining Mass Conveyor "catching" stations, misses its target. Some witnesses report some kind of explosion prior to launch, and rumors of sabotage, deliberate genocide, and other conspiracy theories abound.
The asteroid plunges into the Pacific Ocean, vaporizing the water, cracking the mantle, and producing a massive wave of heat. Roughly 95% of Earth's population is killed by the impact. What survivors remain are scattered across the globe, cut off from communication, isolated, and slowly dying from lack of food.[/quote]
We currently have 6.6 billion people living on Earth. Lets assume in the Allegiance scenario in 2140 its around 8billion.
That makes around 400.000.000 survivors - of course many will die in the chaos of the aftermath but some of them will survive, adopt to the situation (grow food in 'underground greenhouses' ?) and form the Phoenix Order that will rise from Earth after a long time of isolation. So in fact Earth still exists but is a wasteland where you die from radiation if you don't have shield technology to protect yourself. There are are probably no resources left so nobody wants to go there anyway.
But now I don't know in how far the Quantus story line is based on the original Allegiance story so there is no reason why Earth shouldn't be completely destroyed in your scenario.
Anyway - just wanted to mention it and let me say that Finn Bryant showed a really nice effort here and its a good idea to collect our custom made story's somewhere even through they are not fitting.

I hate to step on toes. There has been a timeline and storyline since day one. (Caddy used it) It was lost for a very brief period. It has been on the Academy for awhile now.
The original storyline and timeline are here: http://www.allegacademy.org/dnet/datanet.shtml

hey, im drunk so i probably shouldn't be writing, but i think i can get the point across, i don't mind if you have other plans for the story, i was just giving an idea i thought was pretty good.
I know this is a game, but i think its worth noting that the destruction of the entire crust would require one hell of an asteroid!
thank god for spell checkers /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I knew that someone was already in charge of the storyline so all im hoping is that my idea can help spark Cadillacs imagination.
i will re-read this post tomorrow if i remember i made it.

I like games every once in a while where story lines aren't needed.. I listen to the arabic guy in the background before I launch thinking "Who the $#@! am I going to tell my load-out to? I don't think anyone cares..."
We need more games where the storyline doesn't change anything. Ok, the Garr is our home, our new earth! yay! /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
NO STORYLINE PLZ

Let me pin a thread.
