Might I preface my comment by saying im an administrator on several gamesite forums, also a 15 year gameplaying veteran., and the founder of a major multigame alliance with members from 35 countries. On that note I hope that most of you will understand where I am coming from...
I never download a game that i dont read the entire manual and instructions for... also running through tutorials.. and i found the allegiance academy a helpful tool for the high learning curve of the game...
Unfortunately.. the actual gamers in the community were not so hospitable..... I had many questions left unanswered after going through the entire manual and test flying the game for about 2 weeks.... I had the basic controls and commands down.. I knew how the game worked... I knew what i was doing.. or so I thought.... After asking my first question and getting pummeled with negative responses from the other gamers... I figured obviously they didnt want to be bothered helping newer players... I found myself outlasting at least 50 other newbies that registered on or around the same day as myself.... Now in my 4th week of playing I have yet to recieve a response from the email provided on the academy website regarding training.. and none of the players except for Ascalon_rift@pk and one other man i unfortunately cant recall the name of helped me.... I was dissapointed.. especially as uptight as the clan members are around these parts... Games with a higher learning curve demand patience from newbies as well as from veterans.. and i expected the common gamer courtesy of someone to sit back and at least give me a tip or a hint as to where to find my answers..... The reason I had never visited the forums was because, as I previously stated.. im an admin on my own forum and read and respond to 500 to 1000 posts a day... I figured... I can get the info from a friendly gamer.. its not a basic question.. no one should be upset right??? TOTALLY WRONG.. not only was my question not answered.. i was ridiculed to the point that I felt clear i was not going to be liked or accepted by the regular players.... but before i continue let me say this... This game was programmed and designed excellently.. I think it could have made it as a marketable pay for game.... But the player community is a bunch of (and excuse my harsh language) poopoo heads... I have never been so ashamed to be an internet gamer as i was tonight in that game... The way i was spoken to and talked down to was unexcusable... And frankly a little disheartening for a game that I thought me and my guys could really come to enjoy.... and the best part was it was free..... Well ... unfortunately.. neither myself.. nor anyone else affiliated to The midori confederacy will be participating in your game anymore.. this saddens me as it is a good game and i quite enjoyed playing it... As someone who has gamed a long time i appreciate good programming and low amounts of bugs... But i also think that any online game should have a good supportive community.. I know that the players here consider themselves upper echelon types.. but that doesnt make you better than anyone else... especially not new people who are looking at the game as a prospect to bring their team in and cooperate and enjoy the fun.... Ive lived long enough and through enough bad things in my life.. that i dont need to be ridiculed for asking logical questions that were unanswered by the help guides... so i bid you goodbye Allegiance... hopefully the future of this gamer community is brighter than it is right now.. because i hate to say it, but I've been in dark alleys in the middle east that were brighter.. and thats just sad....
sincerely

You have just proved his point stupid.
I loose my motivation to help out more and more each day to drama like this. Which is why I am mostly /meh on this point. I will continue to play as I always have, with the morals I have been rasied with and if this community finds they don't like myself and others like me who just enjoy playing the game with their friends on TS or squadies, then they can ban us and my Warhammer account, Girlfriend, and IRL activities will get a lot more attention and will thank them.

After going back and reading his post in it's (mostly) entirety, he didn't even say just what his original concern was that upset him, merely said how involved he is in other communities, and bitched and moaned about this one. This community has Plenty of ways to Help people. This community has a lot of people (one 2 posts below this) who are willing to help the people who want to put some effort into learning, and to think a couple of loudmouths who respond negatively during a game represents the community as a whole is doing them a disservice

We've upped our standards. Up yours.
Hello Darkpriest667,
First off I am sorry to hear that your Allegiance experience was less than stellar. Many of use try very hard to be hospitable to new players as we both agree they are the life blood of a gaming community. In any gaming community there are a number of great players as well as "asshats" but in general most of the community are good folks who just want to squeeze in a few hours of flight time.
As you may understand asking questions during the "heat of battle" may not be the best of ideas because of a current situation (comm calling for nans on a bomb run etc.)One of the best methods of getting help is actually via our TeamSpeak channel or by asking an @Alleg or squad member. Using TeamSpeak is a lot easier than having a pilot attempting to answer your question by typing it in. As for @Alleg's they are the watchdogs of the community they are there to offer assistance and guidance to new players as well as enforcing the rules and guidelines hey I'm one (Akuma@Alleg).
Just a thought ..... if you are willing to give it a try ... I would be willing to schedule a training session with you and the members of your community the Midori Confederacy to help answer any questions you have and to get a couple of fun games going. Just so you know Allegiance has other types of games other than Conquest (Capture the Flag, Artifact, etc).
Allegiance IMHO is the greatest game out there! And I hope you reconsider leaving.

IMHO this community isn't better or worse then most other gaming communities. For a really bad example of how arrogant people really can be look here http://www.etc-clan.net/home/, and play a few rounds of games.
About 80% of the players just want to have fun, there are 20% who draw all the attention to them, in positive or negative ways. Usually new players tend to look to the 20%, while they are NOT the true alleg community.
What is different here compared to Wow or AA etc is:
1. This game is hard to play and takes some time to "understand" it.
2. A lot of players are old skoolers, who played allegiance while wearing diapers, and know the inner workings. There is a big gap between the old skoolers and the news.
3. We have an invasion of newbe's, and most vets don't want to babysit ALL the time.
4. Some vets here have created an image of being "though", while in real life they are nice. It takes some time to know who they really are if someone is yelling on TS / voice spamming. Some players have emotional problems or are handicapped, have a dead-end job, bad marriage... well... they use alleg to vent their frustrations.
So, you can sit it out and play just for the fun (no one ever died playing alleg due to badass co players) or leave. It is very unlikely that the community will change here, or there must be a tsunami of new players who take over the community.

Did you read the part that said you wouldn't receive a response until you were accepted into the next session? (Due to start next week I think)

Wrong. Basic questions can be answered quickly. Complex questions require long and complicated answers and are you don't have time for trying to explain a complex concept to a newb ingame. Questions like that are better suited to the forums. eg A newb asking for capships ingame will just get a stfu newb response. It takes too long and requires too much effort to explain how expensive capships are and how useless they are against any competent defense. And then next game another newb asks the same question... QUOTE TOTALLY WRONG.. not only was my question not answered.. i was ridiculed to the point that I felt clear i was not going to be liked or accepted by the regular players...[/quote]OK. Without knowing what your question was and who you weer asking it of I can't really comment on their behaviour, But sounds like you either asked an idiotic question or a completely irrelevant one. QUOTE But the player community is a bunch of (and excuse my harsh language) poopoo heads... Got halfway through and got sick of trying to decipher it. Please learn to format your posts in a readable format. Also ellipses are not periods. They do not get used after every sentence...
In summary stfu and play, seriously it's the best way to learn.
Now in answer to your original question, why are we so callous towards newbs? Answer we aren't. We seriously bend over backwards and spread our cheeks wide for newbs. I doubt there is a single game out there with the same level of support for newbs. So long as said newb isn't arrogant and cocky they get coddled to death. Of course there are plenty of newbs who don't take advantage of the resources provided to them or don't listen to advice when it's given. For the most part we ignore them and after a few weeks they either stop playing or they become voobs (Players that just occupy a slot on a team and contribute to the other teams KBs)

Sounds like you must of tryed asking questions in a small game with other newbs with a guy called Ascalon (who is known to play with newbs)(guessing)
Press F1 > GAMEPLAY > Common mistakes. Yer probably did one of those mistakes and hence not have fun
Check out this guys thread on newbie help and community response, he also applied to CDT like you but is actually WAITING
