Hello community members;

I'd like to start off by saying what a pleasure it is to see how much this community supports us poor little nooblings. This game thus far seems to be rather.. intense. That's a good word for it. For the most part, everyone has been really helpful. The noob zone is especially a nice touch (more on that later..) While I've not yet been through the @Cadet, I can't wait for it to begin. A very nice touch, and just the thought of it deserves a massive amounts of kuddos.

My first night was very exciting and informative -- I had (what I realize now) a good commander and a good team.
My second night was not so much -- the maps had around 15+ sectors and only about 20 players. No one experianced was on (the previous night, a 7, and a few 4/5/6's scattered through out) so it seemed to be basically wandering around. All in all, it was kind of unexciting.

Given that, I note that it's strongly frowned on to boot us poor lil nooblings, and so keeping that in mind I've been avoiding the more vetran games and sticking to the noob zone. I'd prefer not to irritate my (future) collegues with my noobness, but I also would like to keep the game interesting for me. When is it acceptable to join a non-noob game? I've read the crash course, naturally, but I'm still a looooong way out from knowing exactly what the hell I'm doing. Other then being fodder.

I've read the rules for kicking us lil noob buggers out, and I'd like a little reassurance on some of the things I don't quite understand. Some of them I think I understand, while others I'm not so sure about. I'm aware that as a noob, it's unlikely that I'd do these given average play, but still... I'd like to know what exactly they are and why are they are a Bad Thing.

moving drones -- not a clue what this is.
moving constructors -- Ditto, maybe I did this when I used my pod to bonk into one though?
probing exits -- When you stick a probe in front of an exit? That seems like a clever little strategy. Is it too clever?

So in short, I'd like the powers-that-be to note that this is by far the most noob friendly (as in, the community) game I've ever played. The massive amounts of time & effort that have obviously gone into the documentation, the @Cadet program (ARGH! still can't wait!) and the general "Don't treat the noobs like total crap" mentality is much appreciated. You've restored this jaded personalities faith in online games again. (Yes, I know my post rambles, sorry in advance)

Drones are things such as miners, carriers, mine and tower layers and constructors(various unimportant other things as well). You can move these by left clicking on them(or clicking and dragging) and right clicking, most commonly done in F3. If you happened to mistakenly moved a constructor you could have caused serious damage to your teams hopes of winning.

Probing exits is more of a huge annoyance for most of us. If you probe an exit of a base(red part) you make whoever launches from it bounce back and loose momentum, sometimes it kills a few vital seconds where the base could have been saved from a bomber attack, but most of the time it's just really freaken annoying.

If you do get booted there's a perfectly acceptable way of circumventing it, just make another name.

How do you make another name?

And follow the easy steps from there. You are allowed up to three.

Welcome to the game!

The recommended method to shed yourself of noobieness, is to play the newbie server to get your bearings for the controls of your ship, and a sense (not a complete understanding) of the different weapons, ships and tech path. The by all means play on the main server. Follow orders (pick one - not all 37 that might be issued in 60 seconds). /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> If in doubt follow the orders by the guy who typed in bold - he's the comm.

Ask questions (preferably on Teamspeak - you'll get better answers unless they pull your leg /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> )

Then go back to the newbie server to try stuff out that you learned, then head back to the main server, rinse, repeat as necessary.

Once you're in @Cadet, they'll have another method for you to follow.

I'm newbish myself but have only been booted once. I think the key to not getting booted is simple...Listen to what the experienced players (esp your comm) tell you to do. period.

Main server takes newbs all the time, just listen to what people tell you to do.

Did I mention you have to listen?

Make sure you know enough to know how to do what they are telling you e.g. when they say donate you better know how to cough up the $$ you've been hoarding (whether intentionally or not).

And remember....listen to what they tell you.

You will also find it helpful to listen to what your comm tells you to do - and do it.

When you got that down then the only thing you have to do is make sure you listen to the comm.

Finally, listening to the veteran players tell you to do, especially the comm is crucial.

Yeah, thus far the hardest part for me being on the noob server is trying to separate the people who know what they are doing from those who don't, but are issuing orders anyway. You know, such as when I was by myself in a scout ship and the comm ordered me to kill a fighter in a sector with three other fighters. I died very quickly, but I did manage to launch a probe. They got the probe pretty quick. I told myself that the point of my podding and the long trip back was a noble sacrifice for my team, I just didn't know what since I didn't have the big picture. (F3 is for weenies.)

No one on the newb server knows what they are doing, other than people with a "?" before their name. Seriously. Learn the controls then move onto the real servers so you can actually learn something useful /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If you made more than the allowed amount, is there a way to delete the extras, or the unallowed ones?

No.
Apparently a California "cabin" is any place more than 4 blocks from a McDonalds.
