Ok, so we have a great game, great staff, helpful training people, good servers, and it's friggin FREE.
What we don't have is the huge games of old.

So, with the recent penny arcade forum mention I got to thinking...
Can we put together a little media info packet consisting of links to here and academy, links to vids on youtube or where ever showing the game and a short blurb? When you got something free, good and want more people to try, advertise.

There are tons of video game blogs and news sites that would be more than happy to do an article that gets their readers some free gaming in. We just have to list in somewhat mature sites so we don't get mostly idiots/spammers/griefers, and mention the teamwork oriented game play and "If you are just looking to blow stuff up without reason, try another game"

Anyone have:
Info and informative/sweet video links? The promo on youtube is very good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgBfcfLmyKM&NR
Video game sites we could ask to post the info? I know I check www.kotaku.com regularly.

And maybe with some staff approval we can get some interest built up in Alleg, and get some smart new players.

What do we do with the new recruits? Seriously, there are folks here who have allegedly rationale for keeping community at the present size.

So, who wants the player base to frow and who wants to maintain the current player base size?

I am not kidding -- building consensus on how large our player base should be is our first order of business.

I think what you need is a slow but steady influx of new players. If we get flooded with a huge number of new players, the vets will get pissed, the newbs will end up in bad games and nobody will have much fun. This'll mean that your large influx of newbs will all be gone by the end of the week.

Lots more new players so you can feel less guilty of setting up a no novice server /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Yes a huge influx of newbies all at once is bad, but getting a good number of smart people that discover that they love the game and contribute to the community is good, and worth it IMHO. Anyway, if it gets nuts, click "No novice"

Nothing wrong with collecting a list of Alleg media for now tho...
What we have so far:
Lawson's Pro Documentary vids thread
Is he in radio or on the discovery channel? Very professional.
Youtube:
Allegiance Promo
Another Alleg vid - more combat
Short vid of a missile kill

If we had a short video or something that mentions "Don't use keyboard to steer, and don't fly to cloaked/low sig ships, Stop donating = boot, and don't rip to Assault ships" I think more newbies in games wouldn't be so bad.

Anybody have anything else they would use to show off Alleg to somebody that has never played?
(Nothing too complex and the original trailer really dosen't do the game justice as far as showing the *game*, people aren't impressed by cg fmv anymore)

Post more vids!

We could issue a press release to all News papers, PC magazines and Games websites with the release of R4.

All we need is a "spokes person", a Press release and a bunch of email addresses.
We have a global community that can translate the press release into their native language, plus we can have a spokes person for each continent.

This will in general need a couple of mirror's for download, a press offices with contact's from the diff continent's.

Its pretty simple really, its just a matter of who wish to be a public figure, and answer questions from the press.

@Raveen
The Vets always gets pissed... so

@Bat
I would like a better attitude then the "pissed" vets show during normal hours.

@Kuromimi
With the attitude some Vets are showing, i would like to have them replaced, and if it takes a flood of new players to flush them, then so be it.
I don't think they will leave how ever big the amount of new players will be.

My biggest concern is Helpline.. they will be up to their neck i questions with the new release of R4.

an increase in playerz would be mad sweet and the only thing U have to do iz set up a No Novice server and Even a "Vet" server like the old AZ dayz (( thatz when we used to pay to play this game for the new people who dont know almost 3 yearz I paid 10 buckz a month to play this game... Ruined my comp programming college dayz, and a Crappy marraige)).... Advertising iz trully hard.... Personally I plan on buying a bunch of black CD'z and puttin the game on it with a nice label and all... Makin a nice case for it that HAZ the Wordz FREE ONline PLAY real big on the front And leavin them at localGaming shopz... Hastingz.... etc.... Itz the true nerd Base that we need to capture they will actually stick around long enough to play this Game.... Also a good note... IF itz not a breach of some Copyright... Advertising the STar wars Mod may draw ALOT of people to the game.. SO perhapz More work on that mod (( more factionz etc)) may help promote the game..

Having a massive influx of newbies is retarded. Because the level of gameplay would be the same as if someone defaecated on the monitor. ... /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Seriously, if there is a huge influx of newbies, the level of gameplay will go down, lots of newbies will leave and never come back, hell maybe even some of the vets will be driven away, and we sure as hell don't want that. What we need are small ads for a steady stream of newbies, which both Cadet and existing veterans can manage ... and helpline ofc.

Going large all at once isn't really a good idea (though I'm not really for or against the idea of the community expanding), because we simply don't have the capacity for it at the moment.
