You shouldn't need to do anything with the ports... you used to have to do that prior to Release3. If you downloaded the installer from here, then you have Release3.

Well.. just to be sure... when you launch the game (you don't have to join a server yet), hit the ESC key. At the top of the menu it should say "FAZ R3" and a Build number. It this what you get?

You are not. What kind of virus protection are you using? What kind of firewall, other than the WinXP Firewall?

I am pretty sure that is my only firewall, though I don't know how to check for others.

I use AVG but I don't normally keep it on unless I'm specifically trying to do something with it otherwise it likes to randomly take up CPU so I don't think it's a virus protection issue

I use AVG myself and it causes no problems with Allegiance, McAffee and Norton however...
Anyway, your Linksys router has a setting somewhere called: uPnP. Change it. If it is on, turn it off, if it is off turn it on and try again. That used to be a very common solution to the router issues.

UPnP was turned on and I turned it off..same error

I'll wait a while to see if it takes some time to take effect

EDIT :::

Pretty sure it's not a router issue since I decided to check to see if it was.

just plugged it straight in without going through the router and I get the same error.
