Hey, I'm new here but playing for a week now and I really like this game a lot and plan to stay for a long time. I'm still pretty much a n00b but feel the worst thing im doing is my aim really sucks. I'm good at most first person shooters but for some reason I just cant get used to this game :(

I got many types of controls here at home and was wondering which one I should use.

The one I have been using the most so far is my joystick. I like the realism but find it very difficult to aim in turrets.

I also have a dual analog controller and of course a keyboard and mouse but really don't like the virtual joystick. I find it hard to keep my aim centered in both combat and flight.

If im going to spend hours and hours on end getting used to one of these, which one should I stick with?

I personally use the mouse for dogfights and switch it off when I'm not fighting. I had a joystick, but I ended up not useing it because its hard to turret, and you have to use the keyboard alot. Mouse is much better, if you ask me.

I use Joystick except for turret gunning. Turret gunning is a breeze with the mouse compared to the joystick. Joystick IMO is much better for flight. I think they are on a fairly even field when it comes to aiming in dogfights.

So conclusion, IMO joystick for everything but turret gunning is the way to go.

As far as mouse vs joystick, I think you'll find expert pilots who use (and swear by) either. Use whichever one gives you better results.

But if you're aim sucks, don't fret. I've been playing for almost 2 years, and my aim still sucks. The good news is that Allegiance is not Quake in space, and there are plenty of ways that you can be valuable to your team without having a great aim. You'll find joining @cadet very helpful in this regard.

Try using your throttle to zoom when you turret using a joystick. It works wonders once you get the hang of it. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

The mouse is the most simplest, and the most handy, many pilots do indeed use it.

I personally think that the mouse is good, but a dual analogue controller would be funky, what kind of dual analogue controller is it? (link of possible)

Wow thanks for all the input, I wasn't expecting all these reply's.

Using saitek p880 (dual analog) much like ps1, 2, 3. And from the time I made this post to now I find it to be surprisenly well. Keeping my aim in the green a lot more now getting more kills then the joystick. I feel like an elite fighter with this thing coming in top 3 almost every match. (noob server) XD

In a fair dog fight with vets I would probably suck.

Now my biggest problem is understanding terms from my commander. I don't do so well under pressure and when he says something like "res alph soron" I start to sweat and freeze and think "oh @#(!, disconnect disconnect!!!" (now know that means use a res bomb on the alph to soron)

I checked into the cadet program and it really seems like unnecessary over the top training more for the hard core role playing type people. And I really think I wont be committed to it. Maby someone could just post a list of the most common short terms used in orders for me.

oh and I've been looking everywhere for that stargate tag, hope you dont mind me stealing it.

check the allegiance academy.

and @cdt is not overkill, they will teach you many things that you can not get on your own, and it really dosen't take up much time. (i was in the last B session)

reading of the materials will take 1-2 hours a week, and it will improve your understanding of the game significantly.

if you still don't feel like it, just check the academy /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
