several people have made highres planet and nebula (in game posters) packs.

as far as i know they are individual efforts.

i think different packs conflict with each other, i.e. one pack may overwrite some from another.

basically what i ma wanting to do with this thread is to get everyone making poster (environments, nebulas, planets etc) packs onto the same page and to work together.

the end result could be;
a single download with all the ones created - so we don't have different packs overwriting each other
communication, so one person says they will do nebplanet01bmp.mdl to nebplnt20bmp.mdl, and the next person will use 20 - 40, or agree which ones have been used, which are free, and re-assign any clashes to free ones, and see about allowing more to be added*

*i don't know how they work in game, whether each sector randomly gets a poster assigned to it from a range of 01 to 45 or something, or if the game just uses the range of the lowest nebplntXXbmp.mdl to the highest.

the aim in the end is to make it easier to decide which pack to dl...

... looking at Quia's pack, and vald13's new big pack, all the image numbers in the packs are the same, so ether will completely over write the other.
but there are unused numbers (like with the original ms posters)

i'm guessing the images in these packs are different?

if 45 is the highest, can i ask the devs to increase the limit,
also, make it so when the countdown begins, each sector is assigned a poster, say, first game, map has 10 sectors, posters 01 to 10 are used, then next game, on the same 10 sector map, posters 11 to 20 are used, and it just loops around, it could be done randomly, but rotation seems fairer (unless this is already the case, i'm not sure if the posters get decided by the map file for custom maps...)

also, do/can these go in the /textures folder?

... something else, but i have forgotten it

So can i use the unused numbers? Because i just done the ones the installer installed. Also if people find a nice planet I can fit it in somewhere but I am happy with the ones in there now. The folder they go in either /textures or overwrite the microsoft ones, my allegiance seems to work fine with them (it downsizes them).

About my pack:
most thumbnails and jpegs are on my webpage, so you can view them.

The following images are the ones from quia's pack, so they are the same in both packs.
02 - earth at night
23 - son
43 - nebula

This images are also common between the packs:

01 -earth from nasa
09 -mars
16,19-saturn
41-nebula
44-sun edit: this was common but i edited a few pixels that were floating around
there were more but i overwrite them.

What i suggest is for people to look at my nebulas and see if there are any they dont like or they have better options for. Mind you, they are not really mine, there is a credit text in the .rar . I also tried to find varied colours so i changed a few around.

Cleaned up my webpage you can see the pics online now. Here

Here are the mdl's

I was playing on the beta today, and I'm pretty sure that there were only planets in the home sectors.. not much space for all our eyecandy to show.

Anyways, I sorted through my planets and these are the ones that don't appear in vlad13's pack, you can see them here, and get the bmp's if you want them.

If we could figure out why there are numbers missing and/or get the game to display the 'missing' files, we could make one bigger pack with all the images we have. Failing that, people could vote on which ones they like and which they don't so we can slim down the number of images to fit in the existing 30 spots.

Currently any *bmp.mdl can go in the textures folder on releases where the textures folder is available.

is this a list of ones that can be used

if this is a list, can we have it extended once the poster makers have provided files with the correct names, so alleg doesnt go looking for poster 63 when there isn't one?

I'd be happy with 45 instead of 25 as it is now. Al least include the last 5 (40-45), there are images for them in the install.

I just checked, alleg crashes if there is no planet mdl there.
