“A house divided against itself cannot stand”

Before I even get started, I want to say this. If your going to respond be thoughtful, level headed and post something useful. Just going “I agree” isn’t what I want here. Give your actual opinion and don’t quote someone elses. We don’t need straight up flame here, we don’t need snide comments. You take that somewhere else. This would be nice to be intelligent. Now to the real meat.

The last 24 hours have been crazy. We see things that are happening that could be heralded as the coming of the apocalypse or as something that needed to happen. Whatever you views on this point, if you have any, the fact remains that we are still, as I would call it, family. Family that might hate each other at times, but still family. Why?
This game has been around for a long time now. Some of us are newer and missed out on the awesomeness of the start like myself, others have been here from day 1. Regardless, everyone still has the same right to gameplay, and no one can take that away.

Now a lot of the people in this community I respect or love are at odds with each other. You have people that have gained respect suddenly stepping up to speak out, and others that are withdrawing from here, and others that are signing what can only be called their deaths. Now there must be a reason shouldn’t there be?

I don’t confess to know everything. I won’t ask for their opinions and I won’t get into what could be called the main argument today. But there are things that I must say to the community as a whole, and this is to everyone, from Pook, Thal and the @Alleg on down to the most brand new player of the day.
*
This community is now divided. There are two camps now as I see it. The problem is that neither side can truly exist without the other, regardless of what both sides think. There is no way we can get by without administration, and there is no way we can get by without players. We, as a whole, need to come to a compromise that will benefit both sides, and the community as a whole. The question right now is who will be willing to compromise in order to let this live?

Before we even get to compromising, we need to set a few other things straight. We must all get on the same level as far as what is allowed right now. In the past month or so, there has been a completely different face on enforcement as far as I can see, and regardless of if it’s better or not, everyone needs to know the ground rules. I see this as a partial failing of both the @Alleg group as well as the players. Both share equal blame in this, and we will not point fingers anymore. So on this count here is what has to happen in my view.
Now –
1) Allow forgiveness on all counts regarding this. The only way we can start putting things back together is if we have everyone here.
2) The powers must use the appropriate amount of force when dealing with the people here. This is in regards to both forums and games.
3) Players must reign in their tempers and aggression for awhile, so we can figure out what we shall do. This means stop stirring the pot, and I mean everyone. Take your problems through channels.
4) In general, everyone needs to take a breather and rember while we are competitive, these people in game are still your brothers, treat them as such.

We need to compromise between our two camps if we want to be here in another year. It’s inevitable that there will be problems. There always are, but we need to get together now and huddle up if we want to continue to play. Everyone loves/hates this game but keeps coming back. Well if we don’t come together and compromise over this issue, and forgive, we’ll all won’t be coming back.

That is the now. We need a future. I am of the opinion that we have sat complacent for too long, and a move was needed. However, the move came not from the normal shakers around here, the ones who cause problems, but this time from the ones who normally fix things. I do not believe that the course of action take was the correct one.

At this moment, a main body of the Allegiance family is unmoving and stagnant. The Senate is all but effectively dead, and was for a time a major governing body. It was the place for the gameplay changes, for the long bans etc. Now it is nothing. I believe it should be brought back into use of a large scale, be given more power so as to do it’s job better and become the main enforcement body, in conjunction with the @Alleg staff. Among other things, the Senate needs to be retooled slightly to better acomadate this idea, and if enough interest is shown here I will post both my ideas on the forum here, as well as petiton the senate, Thal and Pook to revise the Senate’s charter.

I would also like to take this opportunity to call for all squads to re-elect new senators who are not active on both forum and game, and who you do not feel represent your squad in it’s majority. The senate has stagnated not only due to the senators themselves, but the squads and players not actively becoming involved with the administration of their own game.

There is a lot I wish to say, and not all of it fits together in this one piece. Follow ups will be made, providing I am not forum banned or muted for exspressing my opinions. I take this last moment here to beg for one thing.

Understanding.

I beg that everyone here can understand where everyone is coming from, where their protests and defence of the recent events stem from. Whether it is people like Grey Vulpine who speak up in protest, or Mpane who speak in defense, or even Night who lights himself on fire to make a statement here, I hope that everyone will put aside their own shortsightedness in the hopes that they can understand where people have come from. Simply assuming that one person is wrong because they have been before, or one person is a fool because they haven’t been here that long is no way to live. Open your mind, and open your heart to what may happen, both the good and the bad.

Thank you for reading, and may we all hopefully be here in another year.

There are three camps as I see it. The Admins sick of putting up with @#(!. The asshats giving out @#(! casue it's their god-given right in life or something. And the players.

The players are losing big time.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Well-written, gui.

I'm not sure where we all stand myself - the dust is still whirring about quite quickly making it hard to see where it'll all settle.

One thing I do know is what you said in your post: We're all still here, we're all still a family.

The wake of today's events will bring change to this community. Change for the better? Change for the worse?
I'm a Tiger, not a prophet.

All I know is that as with all changes, it will be met with growing pains.

As a strong believer in community and lifting eachother up, I believe it's up to all of us to make sure the changes are for the better and not for the worse.

For now, lets vent our frustrations ingame and let the dust settle so we can get used to where we are now. We'll worry about change tomorrow.

Ban the pot stirring players, we don't need them as much as it seems.

Part of the problem as I see it is that the @Allegs are permanent? positions.
I say we have an election to elect and resign one alleg member per year or whatever time period.
This election would be held on the inside and outside of the senate, the outside would vote who to kick, the inside would vote who to add.
This way the reasonable people get to choose who gains power and the general population would be able to choose one they didn't like or whatever, because if we let plyers vote people in, it will become a game of favorites.

As far as the two camps idea goes, they are not exclusively admins or exclusively players, I believe these people SHOULD have been banned along time ago, I was once taught that "Everyone deserves a second chance, but no one deserves a third."

There is only one thing I can do to help.

Play this game and help to teach other players how to be more useful.

I think the word "asshat" is overused and should be buried here and now.

The only way to move forward from here is to forgive past transgressions and move on to a better learning environment.

Really that's what Allegiance is for the vast majority of our players. Learning.

So, in the true spirit of who I am and who I will always be...

SHUTUP AND PLAY!

Everyone needs to take a deeeeep breath. Calm down a little.

This is a community, where we need to work together. We need to get our act together, or we will die even if ASGS and the servers are up. This is not a bash against anyone. I think we need to change a few things, but not everything needs to be changed. Once some of this dies down we need to discuss this civilized and calmly. For those who think there is something wrong right now and try to say something in a civilized fashion, I think you for that. Just sit and think for a sec, what would really happen if everything died. Would you want to see that? Everything that has been worked on, countless hours of work, absolutely destroyed? Do you REALLY want that? We need to sit down and come to an understanding, now. Even if it is just for a few days, forgive and forget. Work now to let alleg be changed for the better, and resume your fighting later.
If knowledge is power, and ignorance is bliss, which would you rather be, happy or powerful?

Gui....very nice post...

A few things I want to add.

First, the Senate. We need it, but we need it to be active. The senators should be active in the forums and in-game. If they are not, they need to be re-elected. I think that should be a requirement for the senate so it does not go stagnant again. Perhaps even regular elections for Senators should occur every 3-6 months maybe?

Another Senate idea I had. An elected individual, who has maybe a 3-6 month term. They can be the one who keeps prodding the Senate, keeps em going and active. Someone who pushes agenda items onto them, makes sure they are being PROACTIVE. This person guides them, but he also answers to them. He is a guide of sorts, no specific powers, other than being a voice that the Senate listens to. He would be elected by the senators.

One thing I do NOT want to see is a "Clean Slate" like what occured awhile back. I think we need to analyze and address these problems. We, the community, need to take the bull by the horns.

These "camps" need to be camps no longer. We are one community. We are very different people, we have different ideals and ways we think things should be handled. We need to work together, communicate, and compromise.

The admins did what they felt was needed. They reacted to the situation at hand. I cannot blame them, nor will I judge their actions. I would have done the same damn thing. What's done is done. We can learn from this though. As gui said, we need rules and admins to enforce them. We need to be clear though on what will be enforced. The players need to respect the admins and not push their buttons just for the sake of doing so.

It will not happen overnight. It can change, and for the better. WE are the ones who must change it.

We need to form a system that lasts. Not short term, LONG term. Everyone's voice NEEDS to be heard. That is why the Senate is there. We need to light a spark to bring the Senate back to life.

The future is ours folks. Lets work together on making it good for all of us, so we can all enjoy, together, the one thing that unites us: Allegiance.
