As a newbie you can not lose points until you reach a rank of 8.
But in order to gain points, you must have played in a game that counts. In your case the game must have 10 or more players and not exceed the threshold of a stacked team (70%). You must have played in the game for a minimum of 5 minutes and be there when the game finishes.
The problem is most games on the newbie server do not meet the minimum number of players to count.

And by 70%, that means that the effective ELO of one team cannot be more than 147 points greater than the other team.
There's a lot that goes into calculating team ELO that doesn't factor in until after the game ends, and I wont even begin to decipher it here. There's a whole topic dedicated to that.

I feel compelled to note that regarding the 147 points BZ refers to the assessed average ELO of a game (only visible after it ends on the recent games page.)bigheadzach wrote:QUOTE (bigheadzach @ Sep 22 2006, 12:53 AM) And by 70%, that means that the effective ELO of one team cannot be more than 147 points greater than the other team.
It is not the score you see behind the Teams. (This is only the sum of all ranks of the players on the team)
A very rough in game estimate might be possible with:
delta_ELOrating = ABS(Ranksum_TeamA - Ranksum_TeamB) / ((Players_TeamA + Players_TeamB) / 2) * 100
An even further simplified Example:
TeamA: We SUXX at Turrets, 10 players [90]
TeamB: We ROXX at SUXXORZ, 11 players [140]
1. Just take the higher number of both ranksums and substract the lower==> 140-90=50
2. Divide number from step 1 through players of team with higher playercount==> 50/11= approx. 4.8
3. multiply number of step 2 with 100 ==> 4.8*100 = 480
This would be a very rough estimate as it does not take into account hordes of details*, but after all the equation should be simple enough to do in some seconds without a calculator.
So if you would want to estimate if a game counts then the average ranksum difference between both teams should not exceed 1.5*Players_on_team_with_more_players
P.S.:
Felt like noting this as people refer to the ranksum as Elo quite often.
*=like Ranks only showing rough Elo score, ranksum and player change during the playtime of the game etc.. etc..

@RT: "We've never been whores, we are misunderstood RTists."
might i add flower, Ive been playing alleg for 6 months now and what you just wrote means nothing to me.
So, danniy just play alot of games, you have nothing to loose. Its a constant learning experiance.
Because you are a new player you cannot loose points. The best assest to any team is someone who gets in a scout and probes the map.
Probes give the team eyes so they can see constructors, miners and bombers.
If you do that it will help your team win /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.
Dogfighting comes later.
Take care and have fun
Apoch.

Sounds like a call for self-reflection.apochboi wrote:QUOTE (apochboi @ Sep 22 2006, 01:14 AM) might i add flower, Ive been playing alleg for 6 months now and what you just wrote means nothing to me.

RT: The number of typical responses decreases exponentially as the number of joke options increases.

Was that really needed ?Dengaroth wrote:QUOTE (Dengaroth @ Sep 22 2006, 12:31 AM) Sounds like a call for self-reflection.

How to not be a noob.... hmm good question...
Well learning how to scout and probe well is a start(still working on that my self ;p)
Also being able to follow and UNDERSTAND commands given to you
As far as the number theres nothing you can do but play on the main server as much as possable.
But that number is a blessing for some it is protection from being booted if you really dont know whats going on lol(its not perfect protection but it is looked at in a VERY bad way if someone were to boot a noob for anything short then telling the commander off)

Ok, so you want to lose the (0)? Play on the newbie server only until you feel comfortable with the bare essentials. Then go and play on the vet servers, you have a protection from being booted until you reach (5) (unless you do something really stupid, but I'm assuming that you're not an idiot /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ).
Things you can do to make sure that you're able to help your team; Probe: if you know about dropping probes and even better, where to drop them commanders will love you. Nan: If you don't know what a nan or nannite is, check f1, check the academy, ask. This task is one that you'll be asked to do a lot both as a newb and as a vet. Listen: Despite some reputations, the coms here are not evil minded scum, intent on booting everyone. However, they do get annoyed when people don't listen. Try to keep an eye on the chat and follow orders. Don't waste time: If you're dogfighting whilst your team's miners/base/bomber die then people will get annoyed at you. There's a time and a place for dogfighting but you'd usually be more useful somewhere else.Anyway, I hope that's not too intimidating, feel free to ask questions either here or in game (but don't pester people for an answer, asking after a game has just finished id the best time to get help). Welcome to Allegiance, hope your stay is a long one /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
