You may have read in other threads the suggestion of an @Merc squad for Cadet graduates. I thought I'd write up a proper proposal and lay it on the table.

New 'Squad': @Merc
Purpose: To give Cadet graduates an ingame symbol that they're graduates.
Entry: Passing the Cadet course results in automatic qualification for the @Merc tag. Any 'vet' who wishes to fly with the tag must get a 100% on the latest Cadet final examination to qualify.
Squad Leader: ?
Senator: Thalgor (defaults to, since members of @Merc are essentially unsquadded).
Rules: RoC and SRC. @Mercs have no squad forum and may not organise squad games. Any attempt to do so by a member results in immediate dismissal of said member.

Benefits:@Merc members will have more respect than untagged voobs. (Of course you will lose respect if you're an asshat.)Tag makes it easier for squads to find potential recruits. Wearing it is a way of saying "I wanna be in a squad".@Mercs may join in squad games, to make up numbers - dependant on mutual consent of both squads involved. We will no longer give Cadets a hard time, expecting them to know everything. Instead we will give Mercs a hard time.Maybe an 'exhibition match' once a month, for Mercs to show off their skills.Cons:Untagged vets who want more respect, but don't want to be recruited - are screwed. (See 2nd point of benefits).Cadets that weren't recruited straight after graduation aren't likely to be recruited anytime soon. Lack of offers despite the @Merc tag may lead to depression and suicide.ps. I have no idea what the SRC is. I threw it in because jgbaxter mentioned when he was talking about @Mercs.

+++Edit. Okay. Grads only. They get more respect by having passed the Cadet course.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Ok, before posting these things you need to know how things work. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

No cadet exams will be handed out unless that Vet wants to finish @cadet, that's how it's been since the testing started and the way BV is running it. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

SRC- Supplementary Rules of Conduct.

Squad games- my thought was to have one exhibition game a month, probably with cadets against a puffball squad like XT (rofl- kidding)... in order to have the sg feel occasionally as well as for people to see how good/bad potential recruiting prospects may be.

P.S. You worded this entirely wrong to draw in massive support... still it's a good idea to have @merc, send in those pms. hehe /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

P.S.S. Someone who believed "it's a great idea.' should probably have made this poll. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> x2

If a person wants to get into a squad, PM the leaders of the squad. There is no reason to just sit there and wait for offers. Just PM the SLs, they usually dont bite.

Edited to take in jgbaxter's and tmc's suggestions. Although I don't agree with the 'Exhibition match' idea. I wouldn't want a 'sqaud-mentality' forming.

don't all the cadets who get 100% on the exam usually find a place in a squad anyways?

The only people who don't get into squads are cadets who didn't make an impression on anyone.

Cadets who use teamspeak are better than cadets who do not use teamspeak. period.

Many of the ones that pass the exam do get accepted into a squad, still there's several that don't as well as more that don't take the exam that are unsquaded. That plus many veteran mercs. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I dont like the idea that they could join any squad game at all.

Well, I take your point. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Still, if both squads agreed, might be alright, at least in terms of a practice match.

Let's take @SF (example of the moment), if they were playing against @SRM (which could bring in 30 players to a game for sake of discussion), maybe @SF could only bring 15, ad another 5 merc and that's 5 more @SRM that could play. It has the added bonus of helping smaller squads get the big game practice they need to compete... at least until they're of size enough that it's not as large of an issue.

Just a thought... everything about this is pretty fluid. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
