That's why the devs introduced the random destruction into the code. TP2 was and now is insanely strong. But often it is the only way for sup to win a game. With a limited energy you get plenty of fools ripping to the probe (new, untrained pilots), so that the bombers cannot rip in anymore. With good probing you can at least avoid unseen drops.

@Serb
Blame noir for adding XRM ABMs... /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
@Grimm
On Alleg 1.24 you hadn't XRM ABMs. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

I was talking with DD and Barr? a little while ago about this. I liked the idea that allowing the TP2 to have something like 5-6 automatic rips to it, and then allow the random destruction to come online after that. That way, you still have a good chance, while still allowing for a possible defense.

Well look at it, TP2 Is end game tech. Chances are you won't see TP2 until 40 minutes into a game and by then you would have had plenty of chances to prevent the drop (Blowing the sup, blowing their garr etc.) TP2 is not by any means a surefire win as well, a few games back TF TP2 Drops were beaten by Ga'Ta Exp, Why? Because the bombers that were lucky enough to rip in got swarmed, The alephs were probed well so scouts coming in were spotted and dealt with, and also TP2 has what, about 10 seconds charge up time before it becomes active? Then Bombers take about 10 seconds (8 if you're TF) to ripcord in. That's 18-20 golden seconds that you have to get in range to pop off a missile or 2 to kill the Teleport Probe. If you don't see the TP2 coming then your team was probably unprepared and got caught with your pants down, or your commander did not take appropriate countermeasures (ordering alephs to be probed, no mines/towers on possible entry alephs, not doing anything when the probe was spotted etc.) Either or, if you get hit with TP2, then the other team simply outsmarted you and out played you. It does not need to be nerfed. There are EASY counters to TP2, just think for a bit /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Hmm... it's not a sure fire thing by any means, and it is silly expensive. Still, the random exploding tp dropped was nice.
Actually we just had a game; jgbaxter (TF-Sup) v DreamWalker (IC Sup)...
Although I'm sure we got tp2 before they did, we dropped at almost the exact same time.
More or less, we actually dropped the fake tp2 on their garr while going for their Sup- which when the Sup Tp2 dropped they dropped on our Sup...
I thought it was tight but then realized they didn't have that many bbrs.
Also our 8 or so bbrs had the occasional gunner and were hvy with ms3, iirc they still had med2- not sure if they had hvy bbrs in the mix- didn't seem like they had xrms either.
In the end they pooped their pants twice, we stopped their tp2 and killed their Sup.

Like all things sup, Tp2 gets more imbalanced the more people are playing in the game.
Tp2 Sucks with 10 v. 10. With 50 v. 50? Yeah, sup rocks.
It's not really a balance problem so much as a scaling problem. Thus, until we got consistently high-player games, the stats will never reflect a problem with tp2 or sup.
