The 'Lock Sides' button as we have it now shouldn't be used, and I perfectly agree on that.

Now what if the behaviour would be changed so that 'Lock Sides' means: Only players who have been in teams or not been on the server (or set AFK?) when the game started are allowed to join?
Of course this could still be bypassed by nick-switching, but at least it makes the life of noat-stackers a bit harder.

Even with ELO-balancing, I think this feature would still have its merits.

Hmm, might be worth exploring. Perhaps it could have a time limit. Check it and it blocks those you described from joining the game once it launches for say 5 or even 10 minutes. Those that use AFK to prevent being picked or included in a future 'balance teams' feature would either have to wait, change nicks (which is a pain) or sit outside the game lobby (then they would not know when the game started who was on what team, etc).

For those that might say this could be abused, I would counter that this button is there and is active NOW and people (for the most part) don't abuse it.

I thought the "lock sides" thing was now the "enforce balance" option?

Then again maybe I'm just overworked /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Might be. Sorry, I'm still not up-to-date. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

But then it could be added as another button or included in the 'balance teams' function as Dogbones suggested.

Yeah, I believe Pook is correct, since we don't use the lock sides option (or shouldn't) we discussed actually making it useful and having it toggle 'enforcing' balanced sides or not.

That will hopefully be in R3

Speaking of...

With rolling back those sound changes, is R2 ready, or should we try for another big beta night on wednesday the 2nd?

R2's basically good to go. Another big beta test would always be welcome however. There is an ASGS/rank database change that still needs to be done, but nothing that we (as in Pook) have not already done before.
