Comments (What you tried, description, etc):
Yes, there's thousands of topics like this one, but this time it's different. I read all the previous topics, including the post in the Knowledgebase, but none have helped me. I tried forwarding ports 2300-2400, used DXPort, disabled Norton Internet Security entirely, tried both HTTP and DirectPlay ports, I've tried the normal Allegiance server, and the FAZ, and every single time I get the same message.
What am I doing wrong? And if there is an option I haven't exhausted, what is it? Should I stick to Training and playing private games against myself? And will Batman escape from the Penguin's latest dastardly trap?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I love this game, and really want to play against someone/thing other than pre-defined AI.
Old problem, new topic
Chances are, both your router AND your modem are acting as routers.
You can confirm this by looking at the "Status page" of your router:Log into your NetGear routerFind its "status" Page where it reports its IP addressDoes that IP address start with 192.168?If it does, then I'm right - your Motorola Modem is the problem.
If it doesn't, then it might be something else.
Good luck,

The quick answer, I believe, is that you must do essentially the same thing with the modem/router as you would do to the router. In the modem/router you forward the ports to the router's address, and then from the router to your computer's address. This, of course, assumes:
Internet -> Modem/Router -> Router -> computer
Internet -> Modem/Router -> Router -> computer

From Google, the Motorola SB5100 doesn't do any NAT or other routing/firewall stuff.
What I can suggest is:
1) Make sure your windows firewall is turned off.
2) Double check to see if you have any software firewalls in place at all
3) Double check your Norton IS software, is there a way to add allegiance in its exceptions list?
4) Double check your computer's ip (By typing ipconfig at a command prompt)
5) Make sure your router is correctly routing (ports 2300-2400) to that computer's IP. That's a range of 101 ports, not 2.
Even after going through these steps, if it still doesn't work, please post back here.

I feel like such an idiot...
Due to some kind of error, ipconfig never works for me... but through almost destroying the network by changing the router's IP address, I found out what my IP address is... and, lo and behold, entering that exact figure in the port-forwarding rule made the lobby magically spring up...
*Bangs head against a 3-inch thick steel wall*
Sorry for wasting everyone's time.
EDIT: Well, I got on once. And now I'm back to square 1... For some reason, I cannot log back in.
Grrrrrrrrrrrr...

Well, if you type ipconfig in the run command, it'll run, but then instantly close right afterwards. The trick is to launch a command window by typing cmd in the run window, THEN typing ipconfig in the DOS window that appears, to figure out your computer's ip.Makrond wrote:QUOTE (Makrond @ Jul 27 2006, 11:09 PM) I feel like such an idiot...

Alright then, so we know you CAN get in. Let's see what's happening now... What sort of error message are you getting now?

"Failed to connect to the lobby."
I don't know what the problem is, though. I've tried a fair few things involving the IP and DNS addresses... Nothing...
I'm fairly certain now that Norton isn't the problem, although I have been wrong before. I'm going to try rebooting the modem and router to see if I can only get on once per restart... I'll post the results.
EDIT: Nope... no luck.

I did that earlier, when you first made the post. I even asked if you knew how to fix it...Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Jul 28 2006, 08:31 AM) Log into your NetGear routerFind its "status" Page where it reports its IP addressDoes that IP address start with 192.168?
See?Makrond wrote:QUOTE (Makrond @ Jul 28 2006, 11:25 AM) Stupid modems...
Thanks Tigereye... I don't suppose you have any idea how to fix it? *pleading look*
Anyways, in case that wasn't clear enough, I'll say it again.
If there is a conflict between the router and the modem, what would you suggest I do to fix it?
(Enlarged for extra clarity)
