As some of you may already know, we're trying to compile some nice screenshots to show off what Allegiance is to new visitors who have never seen the game.
We're looking for really cool screenshots that show off Allegiance's glory that aren't contextual. For example... screenshots of 8 Hvy Bombers ripping into a TP2 are GREAT for us since we know/understand the game and understand what an amazing move that is... but new players will have no idea what they're looking at.
We're looking for shots of intense dogfights (that aren't too busy), or even simple scenes that show ships moving into battle. Weedman has become VERY good at taking great screenshots of his StarWars core ships. Having some shots like his of Allegiance ships would rock.
If you already have great screenshots, I ask that you post them here. If not, I ask that over the next week you try to take some that show off some of Allegiance's cooler graphics or dogfights.
Some things you may want to consider:Turn Posters, Environment, Lens Flare, and all of the visual goodies on so it looks as great as it canPlay in at least 1024x768 resolution so you can see what's going onSave the picture as a JPG to ensure colours show up rightI'm sure that with a community of this size we'll get some great shots.
To take the screenshots: Hit PrntScn to copy the current screen to the clipboard. Then, after the game go "paste" the shot into your favorite graphics program.
Post them here and lets oogle at our favorite game!

The Allegiance community currently hates their sysadmin because he is doing: [Too Much] [____________|] [Too Little]

Well, here is a few. Not very nice since I don't play with enviroment etc on, but anyways I'll get the ball rolling:
I will try to get some nice 'out of context' screenies.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
you mean .png right? (or even .bmp if you really must)Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Jul 19 2006, 06:41 AM) [*]Save the picture as a JPG to ensure colours show up right
i have compared a .bmp screen shot to one of it i converted to .jpg and the .jpg was really bad in comparison (the difference in fine details like text was really obvious)

or use fraps
and hit print screen any time you want.
fraps only lets you use .bmp as a losless format unless you pay, but you can use your fav gfx program to convert it, or let image shack convert it when you uplaod your .bmp automatically

No, he means JPG.
PNG has display problems in some browsers... colors are often off. For something like a screenshot it most likely would not matter, since you're not trying to color match it to anything.
As an example - this is what your PNG-based rotating signature looks like in firefox:
(Also as a side note... you really need to put a line break in there)
As for JPG, the artifacts you see are a result of the lossy compression JPG uses. If you set the quality to 100% those artifacts disappear.
Note that in your sig which I post above... my JPG at 100% quality is actually SMALLER in file size than your PNG image... even when my image is the equivalent of both your PNGs put together.
One mistake many people make is to compare filesize for PNG vs JPG to the sizes of the files as they are output by Adobe Photoshop or a similar tool. What they don't know is that many of those tools embed color profile and other information into the file's header - bloating it. Save a file as JPG in photoshop, then save the same file using Imageready (or Photoshop's 'save for web' function) and the latter will be about 32K smaller.

i am looking at it very hard and can only just see a difference *opens in firefox*, nope still very hard to spot the differencePook wrote:QUOTE (Pook @ Jul 19 2006, 05:46 PM) As an example - this is what your PNG-based rotating signature looks like in firefox:

you mean so one is on top of the other?
i used a space so people with high res get them side by side so my sig isn't as tall, but people with low res get them on top of each other so it doesn't stretch the page. (try re-sizing your window horizontally to see if you want)

*makes note*
i just used .png because of the flaming you used to get for using .jpg for anything other than photos *looks at cortex*
