Most games when shipped come with an instruction manual that explains the different aspects of the game. How do you win? (more appropriately: How does your TEAM win?)What are the controls? What are the different factions (races)?Since Allegiance is a completely free and community-run game, us players don't have the luxury of a printed manual. (In fact, the original "manual" that came with the retail copy of Allegiance was almost worthless!)
So, the community has come to the rescue and wrote their own resources to help players like you learn the game.
UPDATED Oct 2007: Newbies start here: CADET I - Newbie Guide
No problems, but... how do I play?

The Allegiance community currently hates their sysadmin because he is doing: [Too Much] [____________|] [Too Little]

For the players who want to dig a little deeper, a couple of tools have been created by the community that allow you to look inside the game to get a better idea of how the weapons and tech work.
If you're asking questions like Which weapon works best against Heavy Interceptors? How many AB Missiles does it take to kill an IC Tactical Lab?How many would it take if I had a 32 Kill Bonus?then you may be interested in TEK.
TEK is a community-developed tool that looks at the stats of weapons and ships, and calculates weapon ranges and Time To Kills (TTKs). It takes Kill Bonuses, research developments, and every other ingame variable into account, and also shows you detection ranges between ships/probes/stations so you'll know exactly how close you can get without being spotted. You can read up on TEK here, and download it here.
And if you REALLY want to get your hands dirty, you'll love ICE, the original IGC Core Editor. Written by KGJV, the original hacking vampire of the FAZ Development Team, this tool is the same one that is used by the core developers to develop the cores you play today. While the tool's main purpose is to edit and create cores, it also serves as a valuable reference for pilots who want to know the exact values for every ship and piece of tech ingame. Although the tool doesn't have a manual, there's a tutorial thread on these forums that explains many of the values found in the program. You can download ICE here. I warn you though, ICE isn't exactly for new players!!
