An open letter to YP
Because it keeps pushing the more interesting topics like the newbie squads and 'this is why I banned you' topics down. Its oppressive I say! LOCK EM ALL!Aeris wrote:QUOTE (Aeris @ Mar 21 2007, 11:10 PM) But what harm is there in allowing discussion to continue? You may not see "value" in continued talk of a topic, but that doesn't mean discussion of it should be banned wholesale.
Not against you or anything but. In all honesty yes I have that right to ignore a thread, yes I have that right to discuss and whatever u guys do (dramatize imho). I guess My thought is. IF a topic is created to specifically deteriorate someones reputation, or personally attack someone, then I would definitely say LOCK IT. Sure there are other threads that eventually leads to a total defamation of a certain character, but was not created to do so. If that person, who feels it's getting out of hand because it's completely decrediting there mark in the community, I would say you strongly request for that thread to be closed.Aeris wrote:QUOTE (Aeris @ Mar 21 2007, 11:10 PM) But what harm is there in allowing discussion to continue? You know, the admins around here allow alot for "free speech" then any other forum I have participated in. Yes there is the right of free speech, but there's also a right (as an owner/admin) to stop/block activities that directly undermines the sole people that allow us to post here.
If you really have a problem with the semi-dictatorship of this site, then no one is stopping you from leaving. I know I am here because I have the privileged to be here. As long as I follow the "very acceptable rules" I will not have a problem being here.
Seriously, we are all here to play! The idea that I am still able to play this game after this many years.. Is overwhelming. The IDea that some people take there own pocket money to keep this site and the game going is overwhelming. You seriously wanna put up a fight and challenge those that give you that opportunity is amazingly wrong. I don't get it.. We are all guest here. U do not have to play this game, you do not have to post in the forums.
The game is made available as long as we obey a very "general" set of rules that is "enforced" in my games and not just this one. To enforce those rules does not make those people that do a "abuser of power" but more a user of the power. Jealousy of not having that power is only a weakness of your lack of respect to the rules you agreed to upon joining/playing this game! You agreed! plain and simple.
I Guess there are those that are fed up with the Drama. (me included) there are those that provoke and entice the drama (because they love it). Fine, so what.. there are those that say we have a right. ok well in your little world you may, on this binary world you don't! plain and simple. The fact that the admins even agreed to a senatorial type of structure only shows me that we have been given a voice. The main issue is no one uses the proper channels to utilize that voice. You complain about the senate not doing anything? When was the last time you went to your squad leader or senator and asked to voice an opinion or concern? No instead the drama threads come out, attacking and criticizing the value of the system.
Blah blah blah
You know after witting all that I just felt like deleting it. Due to the fact I felt I was only rambling to deaf ears. Anyways.. I'll stop here and not delete it, as I'm so disgusted and disappointed with the lack of maturity and respect, that I once believed we all had.

P.S. I don't care what anyone does or says or waist there efforts to destroy this community, I will ALWAYS stand by this community.
P.S.S. I know there alot here that just doesn't follow this topic, but I'm just using this thread to blanket my thoughts for all these ridiculous outburst I have witnessed lately.

Froggy,
For those of us who did not have a sense of the real history of Allegiance and how it almost died forever as a result of on individuals 'mistake' in hacking code, and then seeing that same individual personally attack Pook and the folks who run this place, this thread is VERY informative.
I think what is jelling here is not an attack on an indivudal, but a consensus on what is and is not accpetable behavior in the community. Did you read the WHOLE post? It is not attcking anyon'e reputation as much as it is putting past and current actions into a not-so-flattering persepctive.
My hope is that the Senate revisits the ban limit, as this appears to be a special case.

Robin: "Gosh, Batman, this camel grass juice is great."
Batman: "Beware of strong stimulants, Robin."
well, don't forget to include with the current actions what he has done with helping allegiance (FAZ code, art tools, high res art to name a few)batman wrote:QUOTE (batman @ Mar 22 2007, 12:25 PM) I think what is jelling here is not an attack on an indivudal, but a consensus on what is and is not accpetable behavior in the community. So do we enforce the rules differently for different people based on what they do or don't on a volunteer? No should be the response if you have shred of fairness. Why do we choose Senators? Make rules?
I can think of three people right of the top of my head who were already "valued members" of this community way back when. Funny thing is they still are today. Im pretty sure they don't do a bunch of volunteer stuff but rather by there behavior.
This isn't about the issue of free speech, civil disobedience, whether a word offends you personally or management's performance. Nor is it about the RL YP and never should be. Rather it's the Allegiance version of YP and his behavior we should be discussing.
He repeatedily circumvented forum rules. He caused the need to shutdown the forums for the evening. You 've had confirmation that he used an exploit, passed it to others, and continued to do so even when asked to stop by management.... a different one all together. I'm to understand there's a long trail of similar incidents of poor choices between the two dots over the years.
We are not discussing this ad nausea and if this casts YP in a poor light it's of his own doing. Im sick of the stupidity too and for the sake of being able to play a game, Im trying to bring this issue to a head, by putting myself front and center. Why? Im on Allegiance's side, my sore spot not withstanding.

i just don't like the way your trying to get one of our most active devs banned. (yeah, that's gonna help alleg alot /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> )
i was balancing positives vs negatives
sure it may not be fair, but ignoring the helpful contributions people make when judging them is silly.
and kicking up a fuss about what someone did 7 years ago when they are mostly helpful now is silly too.
everyone seems to have moved on from this topic except you. if you wish to continue your campaign against YP with your senator, fine, that's one of your freedoms.
p.s. yp didn't intend the forums to be shut down, pook just wanted to go to bed and didn't want to have to see what the forums would look like in the morning with threads like those, given the way this community responds to drama it was a good decision (to protect us from our selves).
now, given pook doesn't want to persue this latest outburst,
that mainly leaves what he did over 7 years ago, and he hasn't done any of that recently...
i say just get over it, let this topic die

Well yer honour, I *did* shoot that bloke in the face, but I'm normally a lovely person who volunteers with homeless people and looks after fluffy kittens. Y'see, it's ok because the good balances out right? - Good luck with that day in court MadP.madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ Mar 22 2007, 06:01 PM) sure it may not be fair, but ignoring the helpful contributions people make when judging them is silly.
Anyone who breaks the rules should be punished for it irrespective of who they are. If I were to catch Pook being hostile to newbies and whoring on the newbie server I'd ban him. Same goes for anyone else all the way from Nebie McNewberson to Thal.
