For the bottom, you could make it look like a jelly-fish.

he works in Rhino, its a NURBS object, he can make it have as many or as few polys as he wants when he converts it to polys

I've never done texturing in my life, so I think someone else should do that. And I'll email Gen T.

Anyway here's two options....
the top one is a simple bottom
the second is a leg that could go with seven others around a radial design on the bottom of the base.

(ignore the random bits on the right and bottom...I don't really care about getting good renders)

That looks awesome. What does it look like when converted to polys?

The doors will need to fit the largest ship that can dock at this base. Assuming they're roughly right (which I think they are) then scaling in the core will sort out any minor problems.

Edit: Just had an idea, what if the legs were extended and digging into/grabbing hold of a rock? A bit like the Belters bases are rocks with bits sticking out.
