Basically the issue is that we don't trust the SysScum :)

If you had dorj/sai/mrc/whomever on both teams throughout the game FRAPSing in the same quality (I use 720, have had some issues with FRAPS at 1080) then as long as they start at the same or similar time it's just a case of combining the other FRAPSer's video with whatever one you use as the original to "switch cams" to whatever the other commentator is commenting on

Also the copy of fraps you provided me sucked spidey so I got a better one

What you currently need to ensure a quality FRAPS is really quite simple. Just get FRAPS 3.1.0 (or later probly) and make sure you utilize the 2 sound-in settings to record both speaker sound and mic sound

Actually it sounds a bit insulting asking for an even longer delay, I really doubt that either team will be watching the stream constantly and spying on the other team, if we wanted to stoop that low we would just send someone to RT (our spy would be named NotPhantom230) to tell us live up to date info. It's like not letting cadets watch squadgames because they might be passing on info as well.

30min delay should be fine, in regards to quality etc.. you also have to realise a stream is a smaller download for the viewer and smaller upload for the uploader. If we can do a polished post game recording then great but I don't see any harm in doing a stream as well.

What fps are you at these days?

You do make a good point though, we do have some cheaters. Why just the other day brood flew a ship with his name on it!

gr4vity wrote:QUOTE (gr4vity @ Oct 27 2010, 08:23 AM) Live stream is unacceptable for obvious reasons.
Besides everybody will know the outcome of the game before the delayed stream is over anyway. So what makes it so much better than a proper post-game match summary?
Hey Grav. This is a tool to bring in new players and let existing players watch in (close to) real time. Lots and lots and lots of ppl watch these "live" sites. Even if we're delaying an hour (which is fine by me if I can make it work) it's a huge deal in possible player retention. Even with the horrible audio problems I had when doing this last gig with spidey a while back on ustream, it brought us 3-4 players. If we can get an active channel, it will attract more people. The commentating does that more than the videos. And, we aren't limited to 10 mins like on youtube, etc etc. Its MUCH better than a post game match summary that's written by one of the teams . .trust me. That's why ppl love to listen to Eli Gold call an Alabama football game rather than the crappy network sportscasters. Eli KNOWS the players and doesn't accidentally say that the offensive coordinator is the quarter back (sorry for the American specific references, but it's the best for me).
gr4vity wrote:QUOTE (gr4vity @ Oct 27 2010, 08:23 AM) In addition to that:

- You can't really predict the length of the game (Might be too long for the commentary to stay exciting or too short to justify all the fuzz about it)
- Stream will mostly be low quality
- Hard to estimate the demanded bandwidth
- Commentators might miss out on interesting details in "the middle of action"
- Stream might compromise the personal privacy of squad members
- Preparing a permanent download of the stream with improved editing is extra work you'd save by skipping the stream
Commentary may not stay super exciting, but you're broadcasting LIVE (even if I introduce a delay of 60 minutes. .. the website sees it as "live" from my PC) and you get on the "now playing lists" that appear on the front pages of these sites and the chat functions are "live" so that all current and possible future allegiance players can comment on the broadcast as well. You're considered "live" by the site the entire time, so a long 'cast isn't a bad thing, it's a good thing.
gr4vity wrote:QUOTE (gr4vity @ Oct 27 2010, 08:23 AM) So I think the long term advantage of a nicely cut-together match report out-weight those of the delayed stream.
(IN PARTICULAR when it comes to the promotional effect of such a video!)

+ You can cut out boring/unimportant scenes and limit the video to an acceptable length
+ Much better quality (so you can actually see what's going on and not a bunch of blurry dots exploding)
+ Easier to provide as permanent download amongst the viewer-ship (Could link it to the front page)
+ Commentators can prepare even more exciting comments!
+ No chance of cheating whatsoever or anybody claiming it has been done
I agree completely, but I do not have the time and I haven't seen anyone else cut a squad game up except me. That one game I did (it's in the Alleg Sports feed . .one of the earlier episodes) took me about 5-6 hours . .not counting the time I had to dedicate (yes, completely dedicate) my PC (a quad core 4G ram box . .not super, but not slow either) to rendering the video . . .which took about 5-6 hours iirc. I know what you may be thinking, the rendering time doesn't really count . .you can do that before you go to bed . .alrighty, you do that. I have a family and lots of need for family time. I don't spend my evenings before bed working on allegiance. I'm working my second job or trying to spend time with my wife or working on my grad school work.. . .so that means it might take me 3-4 weeks to put together a highlight video. Can others do it quicker? I'm sure. I'd welcome them to do it and I continue to extend the offer to add videos that anyone wants to the Allegiance Sports feed IF they are up to my standards of quality.

workload involved too much for me and we don't get the audience that using ustream.tv or livestream.com gets. If you want to do it and then "simply" combine the two videos, edit, comment, combine audio from both commentators, produce and publish, I'll be happy to stick in the alleg sports feed for our current players an dif you edit it to under 10 mins we can stick it on youtube, but we've lots the "feel" of a live broadcast, which is what this is all about.

Sai's last post gave me much information that I was lacking.

I never knew there were game streaming sites. I like the idea and hope nobody bomb rushes :ninja:

BTW - Lets move this discussion to the OC so not to cause further unnecessary drama?

Oh - and thanks Sai and whoever else is involved in this.

Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Oct 27 2010, 08:52 AM) I think Smiter has had his high-quality fraps out in less than 24 hours every time. I know it's a lot of work, but the quality is amazing compared to a livecast.

I wonder if we could have commentators doing the frapsing (and not on the team mumble)? Could be a nice sportscast like feel.

And sorry, some of us are a bit shy
I never expected to be on the team mumble . .ever. YOu couldn't do a 'cast that way . . too much noise. You'd never hear the commentator.

The 24-hour time is great if you only have one side of the video and you are going to just toss up whatever you have . . . the diff between that and the ustream is that we get greater exposure and you don't have to wait 24 hours (esp if i can introduce the delay). It's recorded by default on ustream too, so it's there long term and I don't have to waste hours uploading somewhere after hours of encoding.

Basically, the real advantage for me is that I do it DURING the game and am done when the game is done. I can't do it otherwise (note the absence of Allegiance Sports episodes since Dec 9 last year).

Am I missing anything about the differences?

I must go to class, but in short this is somewhat easier with the setup I am imagining

If you hop on IRC later today get to talking with me and we can see what can be done with some quality settings on livestream/ustream and also discuss other options as well

if you want to pm me a time that is cool as well, long as it is after 12 CDT

I'm not in the OC, but drizz can represent for me and spidey knows how we did it last time and how I want to do it this time as well.
