listen, last time we reset ranks a lot of people who hadn't played in a while showed up - its just how it is
player activity spiked after the last reset but it also died down just as fast. giving players like djole a chance to get a higher rank is also not a good reason to implement a reset because you're going to have all these vets who no longer play PUG's regularly, come in for a game or two and $#@! up the ranks of people who do play PUG's like Djole because we're still so much $#@!ing better than you. like seriously - how is djole a good example, I tool on that kid regularly. I think his rank is accurate. if anything its you folks at the top that are inflated.
my suggestion? hide the ranks - at least temporarily. let the system collect data for a year (if this game survives that long), then enable them again. a rank reset isn't going to do anyone any favors - it's going to erase important data that is an absolute requirement for a somewhat accurate ranking system. dunno how hard this is to do but it's probably the best course of action just to get all these idiots to stop moaning about it.
and for people who complain the system is inaccurate - i'm inclined to agree with you. but I also think you should just get $#@!ing good at the game because one of the perks is that you no longer care what everyones ranks are. you just know you're $#@!ing good and that you can join a team and if they aren't completely hopeless - you'll turn the tides of the game as one man against the forces of darkness.
2 easy things that will make more people play more often

I understand how AS actually works and I claim its not applicable to allegiance. Stats reset won't fix anything because the ranking system is broken. The measurement of personal skill by the current system is so low that its irrelevant. So put up a poll what to see what the majority wants (reset or no reset) and do that as we have nothing significant to lose or gain anyway.
The best we could do is to somehow make newbs gain rank quicker. Like drizzo said suck it up and let them have near or bigger ranks than you in an effort to stop newbs/voobs complaining how they can't rank up.

The original purpose of the ranking system was to use autobalance to create balanced games. This didn't really work out for a number of reasons, which is fine.
As the system is no longer being used for it's original purpose we can either use this system to promote player activity or scrap it altogether.

I really jsut want to promote more players. at the risk of being banned, i will say I have been flying under a hider, and ranked up ridiculously fast. I could care less about rank though.cashto wrote:QUOTE (cashto @ Sep 5 2014, 05:48 PM) If anything, it's more probable that the reason you want a reset is because you're tired of being #2 behind P32.
reputation >>>> rank, so i don't know why anyone with a good reputation would be against rank resets.

put a third option to reset them altogetherDjole88 wrote:QUOTE (Djole88 @ Sep 5 2014, 06:18 PM) I understand how AS actually works and I claim its not applicable to allegiance. and a fourth to let us reset in game ranks, but continue the current leaderboard.
and let us rank our votes, so we can add secondary preferences if our first isn't

I am a noob and I cant rank up. I am sad and bored. I wont play alleg anymore. Give me rank reset plz.
Really, why is ppl bothering if its going to happen or not? Or how fast noobs/voobs/idiots/experts raise in rank? So far we all know, it doesnt really matter because in the end we all know the players qualities, this community isnt big anyways, to have something trying to achieve we can do ourselves.

The reason you're in favor of a rank reset is because you think it will make the rating system more accurate, yes? After all, that's what you said in #22.
Now, hypothetically speaking, let's say you were wrong about that. What if you knew, with a high degree of certainty, that a rank reset would make things even more of a mess than they currently are?
Would you still be in favor of a rank reset then?

well I do see your point about a full rank reset losing all data. however, how about a rotating rank reset, or have two ranking systems (discussed before). Or let players just reset thier stats when they want. start over. p32 keeps his throne (which I don't care about). But then people with many losses can have a fresh start.
the current system is broken. even p32 agrees. do something different. get rid of ranks. start a seperate ranking system. do rank resets. let poeple reset thier own stats. something.

I would love to get raw game data from ACSS so people could build their own ranking system, compare it to AS, and if it's better (a subjective judgment, of course, but cross-validation of game results would be one way to quantify it), we can switch.
The major obstacle standing in the way there, though, is that such data would reveal hiders almost trivially. Of course, sufficiently motivated people can already figure out who hiders are by watching the leaderboard numbers change. If the community decides that we don't care about unmasking hiders then we could do this.
There is a sort of "second ranking system" with XP and p-rank, which I have no idea how they are calculated, but if you sort by them you can pretty clearly see it's even more inaccurate than AS.
I'd be fine with binning the ranking system too except I'm almost positive people would abuse the relative anonymity and stack. Similar issue with self-service resets.
