Jerako you are I would say 100% correct with your opinion.
What I proposed would not be changing the default keymapping, but make it easier to change the keymapping yourself with some preset keymaps.

I am going to suggest the following:
Three keymaps, accessible from in-game. Default, "New" and Custom. Default would be that shipped with this game. New would be whatever keymap some bright guy can come up with. And custom would be your personalized mapping. If you make a change in the Default or New mapping it would save this as the Custom and switch to it. If you revert to default on your custom mappings you will switch to the default mapping. Does this sound good?
I will however, not spend any time finding out what keymap should be used. Someone take up that job. Give me your keymap and I'll get it into R6.
And think of something better than "New" please.

That's nice and value neutral.
Btw, I posted the original post while dead tired and frustrated over having had to explain about how to change from the stupid defaults for the 10th time in a few hours. I'm gonna put my money where my mouth is, and at least make the suggested keymap easier to find on the wiki.
