I will lay it all out here. I am on a campus network. I live in the dorms. With NO assistance, I cannot get onto the normal lobby server. Someone has setup a VPN for me though, so I can still play. WITH OR WITHOUT the VPN connected, I cannot connect to the dplay8 lobby.
What else can I tell you?

What NAT/router setup are you behind (to the best of your knowledge)?
i.e. I am on campus, I am on an office network, I am on a home network,
I have port triggering turned on.

Alright... then lets try reverse psychology.

Boredy, do you know if your network admins employ a QoS system to prioritize packets?
Can you play any other online games that use DirectX ?

I will find out about the QoS, gimme a couple days. I have some tech guys comin to my room to fix a messed up ethernet jack. Too bad this wasnt posted earlier, they were in my room today /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />. I'll get that for you.

Spunky, Tiger was just messing with ya.
Hmm, I asked for people that could connect not to post the info as I did not want lots of posts of people saying the can connect to regular alleg and also the dplay 8 but they turned off their port forwarding and then I would be left not knowing if they did the correctly, etc.
It is rather interesting (and unexpected) that you can connect to regular alleg but not the beta lobby.
You sure you are using the beta dplay8 client with the proper config file and 1.1 registry keys when trying to connect to the beta server? Just double checking.

Dasmitter and I just did some testing and we found out something interesting (not sure if its netcode or server related).
When we flew around like normal, our FPS was normal and our sync was 0.
We found out that once one us got eyed by the other, our fps would drop substantially (from 60fps to 30-40 fps). And it would get slightly worse when we started fighting...
Also, when we lost "eye" our FPS went back up almost immediately to normal.

That is weird para. I will check to see if the dplay8 has the sound changes (that we backed out) or not.
More info gets sent when you have an eye, but it should not cause any where near that much of a FPS hit.
Also of note, it appears that both Paradigm2 and DasSmiter are behind firewall/NAT's that block UDP ports but Alleg is still working. I had them run 'netstat -a -b' and that shows Allegiance.exe listening on UDP port 2302 (among others). So either Alleg is just listening and never actually uses this port or the UDP ports are not blocked on their network.
