Is this the Triple XXX server, or what? Do we get to see pics of Serb and his goats or just Masta doin' his 'one-handed flying'?

you dont want the serb pics, trust me... /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Anyway, the thing is that if we do have a 2nd lobby, there has to be a way to let those on know that there are more then just those 10-20 on there. maybe have a second counter on the lobby. One for "players in this lobby" and one for "total players online"

Perhaps I was being too facetious in my previous post. Newb lobby is a bad idea. Just behave better folks. Be a little nicer. Don't boot as much. Be a bit more civilized. Follow the letter and spirit of the rules.

If this doesn't work, ban the asshats.

Have training missions and a seperate lobby for newbies. In order for them to move up to the vet servers, they need to take @Cadet... or at least the test. If they fail, they can't retake cadet/or test for ___ days/weeks. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

The problems with that are 1) Will newbs stick around if there are no other newbs online and 2) Newbs and Cadets learn best by playing on the vet servers.

I think we need to focus more on the reasons people are leaving (which we have to some extent).

I don't think a second lobby is going to help. It might, but I don't see it, here's why

-The intent of the second lobby is to provide a 'safe haven' for newbs and 'carebears'.

I do not see that being so significantly different than what we have NOW to really make a difference. I could be wrong but two lobbies versus the one we have now with separate servers (some for vets and some for newbs) are functionally the same thing. The only difference is it would be slightly harder to jump between the two or see how many people are in what server.

Perhaps the game names on the different servers need to be more clearly defined (as belonging to one group or another) and rank restrictions should be enforced (as they already are on the newb server). We've tried the newb com server, no one plays on it. I suspect if we had an 'intermediate' players only server no one would play on that either. Everyone wants to join the one large game, or split off to their favorite core (like StarWars or EoR) but those tend to always be very small games.

So the big question is would a different lobby allow for a new crop of players to be isolated enough from the 'vets' (the assumption being there are enough asshats there that new players don't stick around) to stick around and form their own second community large enough to have enough players to sustain larger games?

i will re-iterate again, this community is too small to be split up at this time, a newbie server will not help, besides, it is handy playing with the top players and learning from them as you learn the game both in and out of cadet.

ok... how about switching the nov/adv only games to use age instead of elo(leaving ingame rank based on elo)
and keep servers you can't join from even appearing on the list... and display the total # of players on servers you can't see.

EDIT: that would add unlockables ,allow for more segregation, but still let newbies play with vets who don't mind them(on "any" servers) and would keep things to a single lobby.

This is just for GoldDragon as he obvously did not read all before he posted.
Your_Persona wrote:QUOTE (Your_Persona @ Jul 24 2006, 02:14 PM) The whole point of this was to find a way to better retain new players. Our current retention is so pathetic that it hardly maintains our playerbase. Waiting untill we have a larger playerbase as you suggest will not work with our current system. Something needs to change. Our community will not grow the way it stands. I've been waching it dwindel at around this very same size for about 5 years now. Waiting isnt going to do jack. We already tried waiting.

More players would stay if there weren't so many jerkoffs in this game today. So many have learned every nook and cranny of this game and if you don't play it as well as they do, well then your a "tard"(as one idiot put it recently). Then you get belittled for not knowing the game as well as they do. As if winning this game meant everything in the world to them. Who the hell wants to play a game like that?

I think only those hard core players want to play a game like that and they just don't understand that some of us are just trying to have some fun with a great game, and having some fun doesn't neccessarily mean I have to win everytime I play. Yes winning is better than losing, but it isn't a requirement for having fun.

If I had a choice I would definately choose to play on an intermediate server without all the @ players on it.

It often shows a fine command of speech to say nothing at all.
