I seriously wouldn't be. Like was mentioned earlier, the only thing they could really change without ASGS hammering them are some of the textures. First, super bright textures might help you pick out targets hiding in a game like CS, but it doesn't matter much for Alleg since the HUD already puts a giant bright colored icon next to every enemy. Also, brighter textures might make it harder to see if your bullets are actually hitting their target (think about trying to hit someone who has a nebula behind them. The only possible advantage you could maybe squeak out would be to make some of the weapon sprites smaller so they don't blind you when shooting (gatt3 in particular). However that has already been done by madpeople and a few others and it has been more or less okay'd by the administration.Lt_Duong_ wrote:QUOTE (Lt_Duong_ @ Jan 22 2009, 02:51 AM) I'm just worried about the notion croc brings up about the haxors.
It doesn't even matter in the end if it gave them an extra advantage or not (which it wouldn't), because Alleg is about much more than shooting stuff. Hax'd textures won't make you probe the sector next to your tech base. Hax'd textures won't make you get out your fig and nan the bomb run. Hax'd textures won't show you how to dodge missles, or always be in the right place at the right time, and it definitely won't teach you how to command.
Lastly, even in the extremely rare event I'm wrong and some Korean player comes up with a devestating mod for the bios int texture, the admins could always decide to lock down all the image files with ASGS just like it already does with the hitboxes and core files. You alter one of those files and ASGS won't let Alleg launch, problem solve. We would have to look into an exception for people to use a couple "official" mods (like high res or Cort UI), but Pook might be willing to work with us on that.

If you mean hax as in the opening part of my comment back there, I mentioned it in reference to Asian gaming communities it was more to highlight that if we went an "Asian" server, those of us from Oz etc would quickly be squeezed out, (Try playing any MMORPG on a Japanese server one day...), or more so, we'd end up with two separate games as the Asian alleg community started writing their own cores etc to cater to the style of play they tend to like.
If it was in regards to the last part of my post, I meant less "Hackers/Crackers" and more haxors - that quaint little subculture of internet savvy youth (we called em script kiddies in my day you young whipper snappers) who seem intent on ruining the fun of others (team kills, spawn camping etc), hacking other peoples accounts and making sure English as a language is destroyed (PWN! l337!). They like to hang out on well known public game servers, like Internode and Gamespy, especially in school holidays when Mummy and Daddy are at work.

Not sure of the server details but it appears there is a Windows server in Syndey avaliableZapper wrote:QUOTE (Zapper @ Jan 28 2009, 06:18 PM) what is a IP or URL to the servers at 3FL?

TE/Zapper, how do you feel about allowing their IP to connect to the lobby?
We may not have full control of the server, but hopefully it wont be too much of a headache
Wob wants to speak to some admins, is it ok if we set it up? When would be a good time for both of you?
Thanks!

Not to ruin your fun, guys, but when Alleg is really slow (US late night / EU morning), wouldn't have another server to spread the few online people over make matters only worse?
juckto has a point there.

That wasn't my point. And no, because people will stick together.
Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
