But it requires a player to be in the miner's turret. If you put a player in a fig defending the miners a single scout wouldn't be able to harass them either. The turret is actually even less effective because the other miners that didn't have gunners would be vulnerable. You'd have to order the attacked miner to the one with the gunner, which is not as fast as a boosting fig and stops 2 miners from working instead of one.


Giving miners ai turrets would be nuts I agree, but player gunned ones should be okay (and less of a code change).

Giving a miner a couple gatts (not turrets) could be balanaceable too. because the miner couldn't fight and run at the same time. If a scout came to harass it, the comm could order the miner to fight back, and the miner might have a good chance of defending itself, but that also gives more time for other enemy ships to catch up.

But it'd really only be suitable in a separate faction so you could balance the miner surviveability with other econ attributes, etc.

Dogfighting miners would be great. Implement immediately for the opposing team.

Before you start adding dogfight abilities to the miners, make them follow orders first.
Comm: "Go to the starbase, I will fly towards you to nan you!"
Miner: "Ok."
Miner: *Wait, I need a paintjob, I heard the Outpost in Tauceti has a nice shop. I will go there instead and not tell my commander about it*
Comm: "WTF, miner, go to starbase, even better fly towards me!"
Miner: "Okok" *Idiot!*
Miner: *That fool! Off to Tauceti I go!*
