Otoh I had to exchange PMs with Imago to get it compiling. I think it depends on what compiler you use, some it works straight away others you have to fiddle a lot.

Yes,you have different versions of everything.I've downloaded all the Windows SDK and DirectX SDK,etc.
I cannot load these to the C:\ drive as I have little room.Is this going to be a problem if I've installed them on a partition of another drive? Also, when I get to this:
"Find the drop down box in the toolbar near the top menu bar, make sure it says FZDebug
The FZRetail build flavor should only be used for releases."
My drop down only says "debug" not "FZDebug".
Update: I started this awhile ago and have been interrupted by RL.I thought that I had installed the windows SDK as well as the DirXSDK,but I hadn't.

That shouldn't be a problem.

@Koln Are your sure that your girlfriend is not trying to build a virus that stops you playing alleg, so you have more time for her?

@lexaal: it could be possible but right now I think I won't do this

Just FYI, most of the problems are gone when you use VS2010 to compile.

Does it run on winXP on a 7 year old machine? Right now I'm trying to figure out which program to use to extract the Windows SDK ISO file.

Hmmm, I don't think it would run on that old a machine.
For the ISO, you either need to burn it to a CD/DVD or download a program to mount it. Burning it to a CD/DVD is a lot easier, and you can use a program like
CDburnerXP or
InfraRecorder to do it (the former is simpler to use I think).
If you can't burn a CD/DVD, you need to download
Daemon Tools Lite (or purchase the full version) and mount the ISO file. Here's a guide on installing and using Daemon Tools:
