You are doing it wrong.

Please change the default keymap. It is a joke to any gamer.

Sono, I hate to argue with you but I am a gamer, and have been since 1990 if not before. The default controls on the keypad work fine and half the community thinks it works fine.

Also, I'm not doing it wrong as I'm a good pilot as the community knows so please have a nice cup of stfu and start thinking that maybe your way isn't the best way all the time. I've agreed that others might like it different to what I like and have proposed something else which helps both parties (unsure of how much work it would be but I can't imagine that much for someone who knows what he is doing).

TL:DR? Be constructive with your feedback instead of selfish with your ideas.

edit:

Forward thrust is in an illogical place. WASD is for people (imo, read my $#@!ing sig) who like ground combat controls. It doesn't suit full 3d control like the numpad (imo, read my $#@!ing sig).

8 for forward, 7 for down, 9 for up, 4 for left, 6 for right and 5 for back is a nice little area that makes perfect sense. 2 and 3 for rolling is easy to access for anyone who hasn't got a crippling disorder in their hand. 1 for target center, * for reload, +/- for chaff/drop mines(or probe) and you still have buttons free for speed up/down whatever you want.

For me boost is middle mouse button and right click is missile, I only have a 3 button mouse. If anyone has a mouse with more buttons that makes it easier or a JS you have all the controls on the JS.

You then have all the extra targeting / chatting on the main keyboard which allows for no confusion and a lot more buttons free which can make sense for you
(matching first letters for example).

IMO (read my $#@!ing sig) that is a very nice control set, it makes sense and is easy. I do not like the wasp but I use wasp for FPS so it is good for something IMO (read my $#@!ing sig).

No one way is perfect for everyone.

Just as soon as you deliver the remade training missions with all the correct mappings used, and all the re-recorded voiceovers I'm sure it'll get done.

As ever in this community there's about 100 people demanding something be done, and not one of them is willing to take the time to do it.

Dorjan wrote:QUOTE (Dorjan @ Dec 24 2009, 11:41 AM) I still stand there should be "standard" and "wasp" controls for people to choose from if people like their FPS that much. It would make this argument null and void so long as the interface made it easy enough to spot (tab system in the control edit screen maybe).
It shouldn't be a problem to implement an option to the installer, so players can choose between modern WASD (default?) and classic keymap.

What if I want to change it after I've installed the game, say to try the other out <.<

(Remember, the keybindings are spoken in the voiceovers and that's actually a good thing.)

As I said, even mario who just has two controls (jump and run/use) can switch between x y / a b to a x / y b or something in their default keymapping.

Someone as skilled as Imago or Rock could prob do such a thing with little hassle I would think (although it isn't top priority)

I've had a look at a possible WASD that would work for me and that would be as you've stated adding Left shift for down and space for up.

That would be closest to a FPS and put everything in reach. I personally still do not like it but everything is there in their "correct" place I guess.

Freelancer, Darkstar One and X-series also use WASD...
