I think there's still many, many ways to design custom factions that will keep them unique and interesting. Perhaps not quite as different as comparing TF to Dreg, but still much to be discovered and enjoyed.

At one point Andon had a second core going with various factions that haven't made it into the Community Core, but no one wanted to go to the trouble of testing it enough to get it balanced.
