Alien sort of reminds me of Slap in the way he just sorts of ignores what is said and goes to write 5 pages of worthless crap.
I see a trend here from former SPQR members.

No offence to anyone meant by me but that made me laugh!
Also, self propelled kids are a bad idea. I suggest weights or some form of wall mounted restraint system.

We're testing a throat tether. The beauty part is that if he pulls on it hard enough he settles down for a nap and we get a break.

Alien51 wrote:QUOTE (Alien51 @ Mar 9 2011, 12:57 PM) It's an insult when you don't bring up counter points. In all those threads, no one really talked about what I was advocating; they just talked about me. You can see that here too.
No, I don't think I'm going to bother to "bring up counter points" because it would involve explaining the basic gameplay of Allegiance to you. And if you didn't listen the first five times you were taught how to play then I'm not going to waste my time teaching you again. After all, you're clearly not interested in seriously hearing why you're stupid, you're just using it to deflect me into slowing down enough to produce well-thought-out posts which you can then proceed to ignore in favor of pulling the exact same trick on somebody else in order to keep things stuck on how everybody is ganging up on poor helpless Alien51.

Well Rav, I hear that the system of weighing down kids with biodegradable materials permanently attached to their bodies is well in the works in the UK and the USA. It's been dubbed "O.B.E.S.I.T.Y" and is producing quite good results. Although complete immobility has been achieved only in some test subjects, the average slow down rate is enough for the kids to be slow enough and the energy expense required for movement high enough, so that the child is sufficiently deterred from making any sudden movements or traveling distances allowing it to leave the premises of an average household.
Although total immobility might seem at first glance the perfect kid induced annoyance repellent, it might actually cause nearly as much annoyance as it removes, i.e. the child will be unable to run around a restaurant, arms flailing, which is obviously good, but at the same time, it will not be able to reach the washroom by itself - it needs to either be carried, or to have it's diapers changed (a real hustle when you are dealing with anything above the age of 4) on a regular basis.
In conclusion, what you should be aiming for, is mobility rate reduced just enough for the kid to be able to cover the distance from it's gaming location to both kitchen and toilet (but not back!) in one go. This way, it will become self sustaining and the annoyance caused by it will become minimal.

Aquamarine wrote:QUOTE (Aquamarine @ Feb 28 2011, 12:23 AM) one thought on a stripped down newbie core, we have a similar issue with Falcon as well:
Whenever a new player joins us on Falcon (yes, this still happens occasionally) , we usually advise him to play on maximimum realsim settings! You don't learn things while using the simplified game modes. An exception is maybe air to air refueling and unlimited fuel and / or countermeasures, but you won't learn the essentials of the game if you set those to a simplified mode.
As soon as our Newbies are able to get the plane in the air in one piece, we offer one on one training with an instructor pilot.
When I started flying falcon, I had no internet access and no online training material (which was hardly available in 2000), and I started with simplified modes. It took me maybe 2 weeks until I could land the plane, and it took me years to learn the basics about situation awareness. Today, a decent skilled Newbie needs maybe a training session of 2 or 3 hours for basic aircraft handling including navigation and landing, and a few months until his situation awareness starts building up.
As code maintenance for Allegiance seems to be a critical resource, I would focus on maintenance for the cores and not 'waste' energy on yet another limited use functionality like a newbie core.
I have owned Falcon 4.0 for years but never got into it early on (when it was released) due to the bugs that plagued it. I know their have been Packs released since then to combat this but have never gotten around to trying them out to any extent. Could you PM me some info on where to get this training and such? I really need to dig into my Flight Sim love again. One issue I have had with getting back into my Flight Sims is the fact that Eyefinity exist an I do not own it yet lol. After experiencing 3 monitor widescreen on a few systems I practically cannot fly without them.

(Love being able to look to the right and see the turn to final. A IR hat + Webcam helps a bit, but it is not perfect and looks goofy) I do agree with the Max Realism settings to learn things, but coming from my last few years of WW2 sim piloting to a modern (hell not so modern today over 10 years later) jet will be a bit of a learning curve just to get the thing on the ground. One major issue I need to remedy soon is rudder peddles. I have used my G25's and other racing wheels peddles for RP for years but the fact that I have no toe breaks nor even peddle resistance really makes flying an interesting adventure.
Aside from that though I am just a "noob" here and haven't finished reading every post on the front page of the forums yet, has the thought of cross advertising with other similar steep learning skill flight sim/rts game sites been offered? Getting like minded players from similar technical level games would in part be still a small trickle in both directions, but at the same time get similar quality people into either game. Pushing adverts to the rest of the increasingly troll infested interweb in a way just screams bad news IMO.

The idea of a "are you tough/smart enough" advertising campaign might be just as or more useful than current promotion efforts.
