The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Okies...make sure to keep track of all the $$$ you spend on them before coming back and playing here again.

Sorry bud, but I haven't been a regular in-game for quite some time. This isn't a recent development =) Even last year when I was trying to make the new homepage, I wasn't really playing. But that's beside the point! I just think it's incredible how long it's been since I first picked up this game.

You youngsters have no sense of proportion when it comes to time. In Bacon's case, the Alleg period represents more than 1/2 his lifetime. Those same set of years only represents 20% to me.

I was a single 2nd year student when I started playing, now I'm a married man of over 4 years... :o I've only had 3 "eras" to Bacon's 4 (student, year of doss/getting engaged, married man) but allegiance (& RT) have been there throughout.

Growing up with a game like this - it's so rare. People before us may have played computer games, perhaps even the same one for a couple of years, but really, how many PC games have had a community & have been played for over 10 years? I guess to have a community willing to keep it going needs the internet so this must be a phenomenon from the last 15 years or so (I've been online 14 years afaik).

Bacon - you recognize how unique the game is iin your first post, so why won't you play it again then? I have phases of playing it & then of playing other things, but I always come back as there is still nothing like it.

Maybe it wasn't allegiance for me, but I have and will have the same thing with another small online community. I guess its not so unusual to think about it if you think in terms of people you know and keep in touch with over long periods of time, the only disconnect is not ever (usually) meeting the people you talk with in person.

I'm only an allegite for 3 years...

Playing a game for over 10 years is really 'unheard of' for me tbh - I don't recall having stuck with a game for more than a few years since 1995 (I was a year old, my dad said I first played Big Red Racing at that age, lol)

If only I knew how to use the internet during Alleg's beta, then I would've entered the ranks of the Dogfighting Sages x)

il2, bigger community and the original developers :o are still releasing content and features for it. They are working on new (flight sim) games as well, but they have kept il2 in constant development since its release. (4.10 came out about a month ago)
