A bare minimum alleg server is likely to be $50 / month, and then the owner must love you as a customer. Otherwise you can quickly double it.

You're looking at any where from $10.00 to $30.00 a month. This of course depends on the provider and which version of the Microsoft OS you decided to use (Web, Standard, Etc).

Ah, before I forget, for "very special" questions you might ask "dah boss" access to the uber secret "gameserver operators" forum. You might find a lot of useful info there. Shhhttttt.

Question:
Where do the main lines from Asia and the south pacific hit mainland US?
What I'm getting at is that maybe there's a possibility to set up a server closer to that link without affecting European players.
It's possible to have a server which is the same number of hops from NYC as Planet but closer to the east coast... probably.

Planet (Texas) is the best for these types of players and get the lowest ping, unless someone can put a server in LA. but then you get the euro crowd complaining about their ping.
Stripe (Canada) or Solap (Virginia) always had worse pings than Planet given their distance.
This map will help give you an idea.

Anyway the way I see it Aussie/NZ/South Pacific/Asian players are screwed lag wise but the vast majority of people that play this game are Euros and Americans due to servers, sheer population and the fact the game is declining amongst younger people and people who have been around a long while who are married or work commitments, living the life etc.
I always hated playing stripe or gpz and looks like whilst these servers will help Americans/Euros by giving some a 20ms increase and an extra server but won't help any of us down under. in fact it will be worse and I'm frustrated enough as it is. Docmach is even worse than GPZ. But I understand all that, it's increasingly a game for euros and north americans now... with Planet gone and as more people won't play on Planet it's a surer thing. There's not many of us south hemisphere folks left and soon to be even less.
