In ten years?
I see me and a some of the stubborn old $#@!s who love this game. Drinking beer and emailing each other about fond memories.
stubborn old $#@!s = is an attitude rather then cHronological thing; people from Cookie to Para through Oderus and ending up with Spawn and Doorjam the old $#@!ers

Ssssh
I think in 10 years there will still be stupid people saying that game wont last another 10 years.

I don't think it will last that long unless people figure out how to keep it current with modern technology. I don't think updated graphics will matter, but it will need to run easily on new systems to keep it alive. A dedicated dev team has a decent chance of making that happen, depending on how much OS and graphics stuff "breaks" over the next 10 years...
On the other hand, if an appropriate "spiritual successor" comes out that does all (or even most) of what Alleg does right, I figure just about everyone will migrate to that.

The fact of the matter is that there is still no game out there that can contain the potentially high level of coordination, teamwork, strategy, in a fast paced environment as this one can. I think it's obvious to many of us that much of the graphics in Alleg often pale in comparison to what's been coming to market these days. IMO, the only thing that comes close is probably something like TF2 or maybe L4D (I don't think either hold a candle to what's possible with Alleg). And yet, we keep going back to the good ol whore that Alleg is.
The only way Alleg will die is if a similar game in terms of tactics/teamwork comes out that many of us can afford or if M$FT decides to put something stupid in their OS's where Alleg would no longer be compatible. Considering that game manufacturers are probably more concerned about the bottom line (see what happened with Spore), it's unlikely there will be anything that surpasses Alleg. If anything, maybe M$FT will wise up and try again with an Allegiance II.
EDIT: One more thing... few games offer the ability to be flight-sim like while retaining an arcade type quality. Not to mention the RTS aspect of the game either.

Thus, why Jumpgate:Evolution will cost $20-30 a month to play.....Mr. Kltplzyxm wrote:QUOTE (Mr. Kltplzyxm @ Jun 18 2009, 03:09 PM) The only way Alleg will die is if a similar game in terms of tactics/teamwork comes out that many of us can afford or if M$FT
