Well I have been wanting an "adult" lobby for some time. Why don't we put the care bears and the easily offended into the g-lobby with the nooblets, and have the xxx lobby for the scum of the earth like me.
I would be willing to verify my age using whatever method needed.
New(b) lobby.
Yeah, let's balkanize Allegiance... /glare.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":glare:" border="0" alt="glare.gif" />
Each ho his own lobby.

Hmm, allow @Allegs and Cadet Instructors to access the newbie lobby and allow some teaching to occur. That would be a good compromise. But still, I don't see what's so different from the current system. (0)'s congregate together already /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

A newbie lobby totally separate from the 'vet' (hah) lobby would not be such a good idea, becuase they would kinda get a heart attack once they moved to the main lobby with all the egos the size of solar systems and that, I also think that, in a sense it would split the community, and 2 separate communities would be formed, even though the members of the newbie community would only be temporary. In my experience, playing with vets (despite the afore mentioned egos) is a far better way of learning, because cadet instructors and @Allegs cannot spend 24 hours a day on the newbie server and i'm sure they would like to play the game for fun just as much as the next person, rather than having to babysit newbies all the time which would be more tiring than fun.
Also we come onto the problem of commanding, you would get chaos in the newbie lobby ( I am by no means saying that vets should be commanding only to restore order to the game) with (1)s and (2)s who do not really know how to command playing against each other making the game less enjoyable for the rest (though I assume the newbies would still be allowed to join on the main lobby [It would be cruel imho to force them to play on the newbie lobby only.])
There is also fact of whether it is worth having many more servers just for newbies (this issue is out of my league)
Overall I do believe that while having an extra 1-2 newbie servers would not be such a bad idea (incase one does not like the game going on in the current newbie server) a newbie lobby is a bit over the top.
I am definitely opposed to the adult lobby idea, which is an absurd way so segregate our already small community, especially seeing as we already have the 13 yr old age limit and the swear filters etc. What would be the point of an adult server? If you dont like the crap that someone is saying just mute them, that's what it's for!

So let me see if I get this straight:You realize that the "rough" conduct in out community causes loss of potential new playersYou want this 'rough' behaviour to continue as it adds a special flavour to the game.In order to still retain newbies you want to create a "Allegiance Happy Zone" in which 'rough' behavior is completely forbidden. After the intial playtime of some months the former newbie is now addicted to Allegiance and you hope that said addiction will allow him to overcome the 'rough' behavior as 'the craving' is now stronger than his adverse reaction to 'friendly insults'.for some reason you equate 'friendliness' and 'carebear' attitude with 'lack of skill'. I assume that there are quite some Vets who would rejoice if the endless stream of cursing which one sometimes experiences ingame would cease.Well mayhap I got you all wrong and you only wanted to seperate players of different skill levels.Your_Persona wrote:QUOTE (Your_Persona @ Jul 23 2006, 11:27 AM) *replying to your persona's first post, it was a bit long, just scroll upwards*
In this case ignore my above points.
@RT: "We've never been whores, we are misunderstood RTists."
Nah, I'd rather keep the game free. Myself, I would suggest the following things:
1. Programming a "Tip of the Day" into the MOTDs before the lobby screen.
2. If we do keep the newbies from joining the main servers, at least let some "older" newbies, like the (4+)s on. If you stay with the game long enough to reach that number where you can be banned for anything, chances are that you've figured out a decent amount of stuff, and you're going to stay for a good while. You're also likely to join CDT and maybe a squad.
The only problem I forsee that hasn't been mentioned with this arrangement is that the newbies might not learn how to nan, change cargo, any of that important stuff. Alleg Academy would have to be severely stressed and pointed out, much more obviously than it is now. Here's what I suggest:
Newbie Training servers should use a special core. In mission briefings, you should get things like "Use your superior speed and economy to compensate for your initial lack of technology, and crush the enemy". Every faction needs a sort of "Battle Radio*" that explains the faction's strengths and weaknesses, along with a "Press F1 to recieve ingame help" message. Trust me, we all know Allegiance is a complex game with a steep learning curve, and that newbies need to be bribed and coddled, although I would be interested in an option that turns off the most outrageous money settings on the newbie server, hence avoiding Capwars.
Anyways, I'm for an "Allegiance Happy Funtime" server, but the newbies need to be coddled with information and repetitive memes, and veteran support.
*Here are some suggested messages, some are faction oriented, some are just general gameplay*
"When an enemy bomber enters one of your sectors, shoot the escorting repair nanite scouts first."
"Press F8 while in base to quickly switch between bases, or board someone else's ship to turret."
"While on the ship loadout screen, click on images of cargo to change the contents of a cargo bay."
"Gigacorp has special refineries that are built on tech rocks, that while vulnerable and expensive to research, provide a large amount of money every minute."
"It is cruical that you defend and repair miners. They are the backbone of your economy, and without them, you will not be able to counter your opponent's technology."
"The Belters' small ships do not mount shields, but instead have large amounts of hullpoints to compensate."
"Rixians have a bonus to gun range and damage, but can not mount missles."
"Bombers, Gunships, and Capital ships require escorting nanites and onboard turrets to be effective."
"While commanding, remember to expand with outposts and teleport recievers. You may also want to build refineries behind your expansion to allow for quicker mining."
"If your opponent builds a Tactical laboratory, and you don't have enhanced miners, research them."
etc etc etc.

Nans are happy people. They fly around, give out repairs, and overall have a lot of fun. Why are we killing them when we can learn from their example?

On second thought, I loathe my old banner. I want a good one, does that mean I have to work for myself?

A random/daily MOTD is no problem with ASP/PHP.

I'll supply you with an adults only server. The age verification requires all your credit card numbers, bank account details and no questions asked. Have fun (until your house gets repossesed /ninja.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ninja:" border="0" alt="ninja.gif" /> )Elephanthead wrote:QUOTE (Elephanthead @ Jul 23 2006, 02:32 PM) I would be willing to verify my age using whatever method needed.
