I haven't played allegiance since about december, and now I am not sure what's wrong with it.
When I tried running asgs 2.1 i opened to console to see what was going on, it went to a message like "unable to start process"or something.
Now I uninstalled, and reinstalled, it did all the updating of asgs or whatever, its asgs 2.1 build 145 and this is the console readout:
• Initializing

The actual game exe doesnt launch. I have no idea why, and as I said I reinstalled once, although it was a 68MB installer i had from before.
When I go straight to the directory and try to open Allegiance.exe, I get "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I think that might have always said that though right? It only works when asgs calls it?
Unable to launch allegiance

Hit start, run.
Type cmd to reach the command line.
now type chkdsk and wait for the results. It sounds as if your harddrive might have some problems.
Do that with all the different hard drives (if you have any additional drives)
If that showed no problems, redownload the installer and make a clean reinstall.

I'm running that now. One thing though, whenever i uninstall and reinstall when i open asgs it still has my login details.
I just downloaded the installer again, reinstalled it, and now agsg changed its message to (after the beginning logout line):
• Allegiance exited with code: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
• Creating Crashfile
• Beginning Logout
• Closing processes
• Sending Logout Request
• Logged Out

I'm having the exact same problem, but I investigated a little more. ASGS would say "Unable to launch Allegiance" and Did not start in the time allotted". So I tried running the Allegiance exe, "This application could not start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I uninstalled Allegiance, then using an installer I've had for a bit (Since Nov. 11, 2006), filesize is 64.5mb (can't find a version number on it), I reinstalled Allegiance to the extra HD, just in case it was my HD slowing things down. I started Allegiance.exe, it ran fine, went through the academy crap again to know how to play, then started ASGS. After it downloaded all the updates (including one to Allegiance.exe), the problem came back, I can connect, log in, but it won't start Allegiance. Attempting to start Allegiance.exe gives the same error as before. Is there something in the update that just doesn't fit with some of our computers?
