As soon as you have a piloted mining ship that can yield some advantage, you will need to have pilots in those ships every game. If it only replaces an AI-drone rather than being on its own count or unlimited, it might work but in general I'm not a fan.

For scaling games - there's no reason we couldn't have the drone-count as a setting in game options. The server can be set to allow any arbitrary number of drones, it just defaults to 4 and that seems to be a good number.

I repeat and emphasize that I only meant this as a way to circumvent silly AI when necessary.

I think you just want all commanders to be able to micro manage their miners like Jimmy does. I'd like that too /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The miner gun should be able to steal money from players as well as rocks.

I heard an apocryphal story from someone that there were turreted miners in Beta. Very briefly.

Turreted miners could be balanceable. There has to be some combination of AC, mini-AC, and/or ammo capacity that will work.

The biggest problem is newbies getting stranded who don't know about ctrl+shift+DDD

I don't think so, Ada- scouts need to be able to harass miners, and they couldn't if miners had even mini-acs with extreme ammo limitations.
