Something that did the equivalent of sector overload damage? could be cool. especially if you hit a stealth with it. I don't know if there's any way to tie it to a timer using just the core file though. Someone who knows ICE options better than I do would have to look into it.kai wrote:QUOTE (kai @ Jul 19 2006, 06:14 PM) Nanites dont only repair things, they can take them apart. Picture a nan missile that hits the enemy base, and does constant damage for around a minute? Or one that hits a fighter and begins taking it apart...
A new missile please....

I can double check, but I am pretty sure this would require a code change.
Missile 'damage' has a floor of zero I think.
I don't particularly like the idea either, it would unbalance things too much
I think (thus making miner defense and bomber runs a lot, instead of just a
little, easier) unless they only did a wee bit of healing, then why bother.
Although I do like the idea of 'repair drones' and will post that idea in
the general core thread.

[unless it tastes bad, then it is yours.]
The last time this idea came up it was shot down over a code change to allow/make drones fire on friendlies.Dogbones wrote:QUOTE (Dogbones @ Jul 21 2006, 09:10 AM) I can double check, but I am pretty sure this would require a code change.

Apparently a California "cabin" is any place more than 4 blocks from a McDonalds.

In a combat situation, nan missiles would be useless anyway. Ever had a friendly fire a missile at you? You get the 'Missile Alert' klaxon blazing, imagine BOMB RUNS! Missiles flying everywhere, and you're dropping chaff as fast as you can, it would only add to the stress level experienced by bomber pilots, plus timing would be next to impossible to pull off. Nans only work because they apply healing constantly to stop the barrage of bullets/missiles slamming into the bomber, a nan missile would only give the bomber a extra micro second of life before it pops, unless you could fire them faster than QF and carry like 30 a rack.
Conceivably, it would be more helpful on cons/miners because of their high hull, and generally they won't have the entire enemy team shooting them. Often our team has lost a miner because a nan was only a few hundred metres away so it couldn't repair it in-time. Being able to instantly take the miner back to full health from long range would be quite useful.
