I'm happy to report some progress. I have registered "Allegiance" on Steam, and I've been granted an App ID for the game. Actually, there are two, one for Beta and one for production. I have a lot of reading to do now on all of the various things that will be needed to setup the store front for the game, such as graphics and icons. In addition to DRMing the artwork and game executables, figuring out how the content pipeline works, etc. There are also options for trading cards and achievements! While this really gets me excited to start branching out on features, I'm going to stay focused on cleaning up the last of the bugs with the help of Wasp, Old Crow, Blacksun, Paps, and a bunch of other folks on the Discord channel. Once that's done, it's back to Steam integration and then on to the public testing.

You won't be able to see Allegiance on Steam yet, I'll post here again when the coming soon page is up.

We have some new features coming your way as well, including a bunch of R8 things that never got released. Imago, YP, Spunky, and Turkey all have changes and improvements, along with some pokes from pkk and others (hope I'm not leaving anyone out, there are a lot of changes between the R7 that we run now and R8).

Thank you all for the ideas, offers of support and well wishes. If I didn't get back to you personally, it's only because I've gotten quite a bit of mail suddenly! :)

Nice Job.

Would it be possible to upload the current installer -as is- there, so we already can get new users?

(I'm aware we want a steam version, but that will take time and implementation).
I have a johnson photo in my profile since 2010.

We shouldn't.
Releasing now, would be a catastrophe.
We don't have the new training missions, and we still need to fix some bugs.
(Along with other stuff that needs to be done.)

hey BT,

What the official source repo you're are working on?

I've looked at https://github.com/FreeAllegiance/Allegiance but it's a fork from https://github.com/AllegianceZone/Allegiance which contains too many untested/unwarranted changes (not to mention text formatting changes that completely screw git diff).

https://github.com/FreeAllegiance/Allegiance-R7 seems to be the latest R7 which is currently running.

My repo at https://github.com/kgersen/Allegiance was based on the latest SVN which seems to be in sync with your 'Allegiance-R7' except that I have the SVN commit history all way to back to 2005.

I'm a bit lost here and I'm afraid you're all working on a very different base than I am. I'm not sure I'll be *simple* for me to send you PR.

I don't get the rationale of basing the community code on https://github.com/AllegianceZone/Allegiance as this code was never tested or released.

Imho, you should start from the latest 'in production' code, that is Allegiance-R7 and from there cherry pick changes from other repos (and review these changes before doing so).

Hi KG,

I am not sure where Imago got the branch he is working on now, I thought that it also came from SVN as did the one I have for R7.

The reason I selected Imago's R8 branch is because he and YP have put a lot of effort into getting bots up and running in there, in addition to resurrection many of the Club server features. I also did some work on the Club features, and had an ACSS compatible version ready for us to test in 2014, but we didn't get enough testers to try it out, so it died on the table.

I've been through a bunch of it, and I'd encourage anyone who wants to take a look at my changes (and Imago, YP, Turkey, Spunky, and stuff from others) to do so.

I also have beta steam keys to hand out by the bucket full, so as I get closer to a release there will be a full on beta period and many bugs will be fixed in the process. Wasp has been a big help in this area as well, he also is familiar with the projects that are underway at AZ.

My original plan was to do as you suggest, start with R7 and bring AZ changes into it, but I quickly ran into problems dissecting changes from code formatting, and I was making a tremendous amount of bugs in the process. In the end, this was the cleanest way to get the active development branch (which is AZ's branch right now) fitted with FAO security so we can move forward, and still leave the door open for Club and Bots in the future.

I could definitely use your help here, if you find the time to take a look. Right now, the R8 branch from AZ is the head: https://github.com/FreeAllegiance/Allegiance

We could merge that back into yours to get the full history, if Imago and YP are up for that. They would need to take my changes, and then baseless merge them back to you. I have no idea if that would preserve the changesets back to you though.

Thanks,
-BT

Hum yeah I don't know if that would work without too much work.

I've made very big changes based on R7, cutting lot of stuff, removing lot of files, etc.

IMHO, your stuff is de facto the 'community' code, others have their code, I have mine. The best way to work is that your code is the 'reference' and we push PRs to you.

If your stuff is based on something else than mine then I'll have to adapt or be divergent forever. I don't like it but that's my problem.

Also I'm not convinced about Club, bots and AZ stuff. I've tried in the past to resurrect these dead parts but I've come to the conclusion isn't worth it. It would be better to lay a new foundation, more modern and to rebuild similar features on it. That's my direction for now. It's more mid/long term so I might not be able to send you much PRs, at least not big ones.

We will see how things evolve.

These bugs haven't been fixed yet because don't have any developers interested in fixing them up. --Tigereye
