So what's been released for SC since this thread was last active? How is development going? It's all gone quiet in the news so I presume something's happening which is all for the good.
The biggest change was the start of persistence, where all objects are now stored server side rather than client side, and the universe is real and shared by everyone in that sense, which apparently was a big deal on the netcode side. A lot more design work, more work on charcter animations and interfaces. No tectonic shifts in terms of what's testable. Some much larger ships have been released or are nearing completion. The Bengal, a massive capship, is 80% finished and it's 3km long iirc? Although we won't get to see it in play until SQ42 releases, I imagine, which is projected to be the end of this year or beginning of next (it is quicker to release than the Persistent Universe as it is a single player game that uses some of the same assets as the PU but mostly only military ones, and doesn't require the netcode/instancing optimization the PU will). Oh, and procedurally generated planets and included handmade zones are coming soon, apparently.

THat sounds good although apart from the art/design work that doesn't seem a huge move forwards in 9 months? I'm not a game dev or any sort of dev but I'd expect a bit more progress on the code front if they're expecting to release anything this year. Art is obviously a big time sink for the devs though so it's good to see the assets lining up, you just need to have a game to use them in now :)

What sort of planets are going to be landable? Just airless worlds like E:D or are they going to model atmospheres too? Oh and will there be any proceduraly generated inhabited areas or will they be exclusively hand made?

Exciting times!

This is the most hyped game ever.

I hope it keeps the promises and doesn't end in a fraud.

Could this perhaps be the perfect time for an exiled Nigerian prince to contact the disillusioned investors with: Incredible News! ?
