This is going to be interesting. So the Reps attempt to tackle Trump have failed? If Putin marches into Europe, Europe must take care of it's own defense?

Reps did attack trump and had fails, beside trump still have other option if reps win, as of Europe must take care of it's own defense? Yes! EU have indicate to the US that they are able to take care themselves, if I was EU I would not count on trump for military and I would not count on trump business as usual.

I get that people are annoyed at politicians and Parties in general, in part because people see them as divorced from reality and untrustworthy.

But Trump embodies both of those traits massively*, yet manages to glide past these flaws to a portion of the electorate.

The fact that he's an "outsider" who people think is saying exactly what he thinks all the time seems to play for him (Boris Johnson over here has had a similar effect sometimes).

*
Divorced from reality - He's been brought up as heir to a massive amount of wealth, his first business was based on a loan of 1 million from his dad for christ-sake, and inherited 10s of millions. It's not like he's a self-made man in any sense of the word, or has had to every work a full time minimum wage job. I doubt he's ever had to shop in a supermarket even.

Untrustworthy - The amount of statements he has made which are plainly and entirely false, defies belief

The fact that he speaks for obviously the largest part of the republican base doesnt mean he speaks for the largest part of the electorate. The republican base has been fed a steady diet of these "facts" by fox news, and all he's really done is repeat them unapologetically. The amusing part is now all republicans who encouraged this discreetly are shocked by how it turned out.

Granted, he's not 100% wrong on everything, but he can't win an election by courting only white male voters. Republicans have learned that in the last few elections, which is why they are really wringing their hands

What puzzles me is the fact that he can be so appealing to reps, while being utterly incoherent and inconsistent.
One day he calls for a 45% tax on china, and the day after he denies having said so.
He calls for a repeal of Obamacare with something he does not even know what it is.
But really, his ascent is almost a mirror image of Berlusconi's own rise to power in Italy, in 1994.
A "business man" with persistent media presence, fills the vaccum by resonating with centre-right, right wing voters.
Only a Trump POTUS may be more than dangerous than the laughing stock that is Berlusconi.

This is so weird. Italy had (has?) berlusconi and 5stars, austria and everything east from it also controlled by right populists or crazy communists.
I believe when france goes full le pen similar happens all over europe in 10y we will look up to Trump and calling him "voice of reason".

As long as the business is fiscally responsible of course.
Perhaps he can make America great again, Obama certainly hasn't.
Calling Trump a businessman is quite generous. Grifter or confidence trickster would seem more appropriate. How many bankruptcies is that now, four? How about that "Trump University" scam?

Honestly I'm astonished people are willing to even consider voting for the orange wonder. I'd have thought backing away form showing his tax returns would have been enough to show people what kind of a person they are dealing with.

Why can't he show his returns? Because he's nowhere near as rich as he claims to be, doesn't donate to the charities he claims to donate to and no doubt uses every trick on the books to get out of paying any taxes what so ever.
