So, wrt Allegiance and the future....
There has been talk for years about the next generation of Allegiance, but no concrete action because of the money and licensing reasons we all know. Developing a new engine would cost some bucks, and nobody can raise that bucks without MS releasing their rights.
What do you guys/gals/P1 think about piggybacking on another game. In particular, I am thinking of Star Citizen as its combat is the closest in feel to Allegiance, it is just somewhat more complicated in terms of ship management and more demanding in terms of computer requirements. What Star Citizen already has, for those of you not into it, is mini-games within the game, as the means to test the FPS or flight combat modules, but they will persist for people to practice technique, or have some casual fun. They have a free-for all, and a capture the flag flight combat variant already. What if we could pitch to them a strategic mini-game? One thing Chris Roberts does not want in the persistent universe (main game) is territorial aquisition. In the persistent universe PvP will exist, but not without consequences for dying to make combat more meaningful from a character's point of view, so people really looking for a lot of PvP combat will still likely get their freak on in the mini-games.
Maybe it's as simple as getting CIG to be interested in a mini-game that has territorial control and a mini-economy/tech paths like Allegiance. It would probably be somewhat different, they aren't going to design new ships specifically for us, and yet could be strategically similiar, and tactically similiar. They have a wide variety of ships, so the feel might not be so very different, they have turreted bombers, all sorts of different fighters, troop carriers, stealth fighters...you just might have to whip out a gun in FPS when you land your troop transport and actually kill the enemy...
It would certainly require a lot less programming effort, and if it flew it would give us a shiny new allegiance (that would have to be called something else, unless CIG is really into buying the rights) that could persist for another 15 years.
In terms of CIG and CR, the question would be is that a kind of offering they would like to include (is more always better?) or would they feel it would compete with the persistent universe. I can't imagine it would because there would be no gains for a player's development, and anything that gets people into Star Citizen should be welcomed. As for us, I'm not sure what there is to lose, either.
Just a thought.
As a concierge backer of SC (read as I've put an emberassing amount of money into the game) I have a slightly more direct line of communication with CIG than most. I'm not suggesting I personally have the ear of anyone there, but we get a channel that is supposed to get listened to more avidly, so if people think it's a worthy idea I could ask. They are so busy we couldn't expect a rapid response, but we could sniff.
Your thoughts...
not trolling, just an idea...

@Blacksun...I mean this as a theoretical way of keeping it alive...by updating the engine and graphics, and bringing in what will eventually be in the millions of potential new players. It's only a worthy idea insofar as we might convince CIG to make a minigame that actually played like alleg. No, it wouldn't likely be the carbon copy that making Alleg II might be...but is there any realism to the hope that might actually happen? And will there be anyone left to care in however many years it would take to bring that to fruition? I see TE is chomping at the bit now. I'm not giving up. But if Steam can't happen, I think another solution needs to be found, and quicklike.
Last weekend was awesome. But we're gonna be back to roughly 25-30 active players again, and hoping for a 10v10 on Sundays. So I propose this, which is a mighty longshot of its own.

I suspect that CIG have enough on their plates without adding even more game modes though![]()
While they certainly do, it isn't too early for a discussion. CR and CIG plan well ahead, as a large company must. Also, since it wouldn't require much in the way of new assets, in fact no new graphical or engine design, it would be a fairly easy thing, relatively. All they have to do is implement the strategic game structure that informs the tactical gameplay. That would still take some effort of course.Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Dec 16 2015, 09:36 AM) I've felt for a long time that some sort of mod to an existing engine would be the most practical way of making Allegiance an up to date game with the added bonus of getting away from MS ownership. Truthfully, the most significant impediment to the idea, at this point, is the code optimization and the limit to the number of ships in an instance that tops out atm around 12 ships, afaik, although that barrier will come down fairly swiftly. Anyways, if there isn't that much support for the idea, I'll drop it.

Does anyone have an inside track to the Elite Team? I understand that they have completed their game, so may have more time than the Star Citizen guys. I suspect the SC team will be more focused on trying to get a playable element of their own game out.

Maybe we can approach ms, ask them to work on an allegiance 2? Can the devs that created allegiance re-release the game. Im guessing the only way to do it, is if they made money off it. Probably why they quit allegiance, it only made money when someone bought the cd. It's sad that a game like this is dead becouse its totally free. The way they designed it, every game has a different outcome. If you take even 3 factions, with 3 tech paths, 3 different maps, different commanders. It truley is a unique game. Is there any games out there, that has individuals in control or order other online players around? And yes I've been drinking.
