Am I the only one whose updater downloads a file every time I start the launcher and again when I start the client?

Nope.
It happens to every client as far as i know.

Well the 1.2 beta is off line so no actual updates are pushed.
Must be some small NET. error

I noticed that too, but haven't got a chance to look at why yet. I can confirm it doesn't happen in the R8 AU, it's just limited to the launcher.
