Exactly. I propose to expand the SSS system to the actual backup itself, and share it with a few more people. Anyone with X gigs of free space on a hard disk can hold the position as SSS keeper. No specials skills required.

Or put the massively encrypted FA backup (veracrypt / gpg / blahblahblah) itself on a free accessible cloud provider (Mega / OneDrive jadijah) and SSS the password with the 7 persons. If no one has enough free gigs I mean. Less preferred option since someone can delete / disable / corrupt the cloud contract.

Anyway, something to think about when TE hands over "his" FA baby hosting files and passwords.

Don't forget to massively thank TE for his very deep pockets and kind attitute to keep FA running during this hard time.

What would be so much easier is if someone like AEM were given some admin privileges to this site so that he could rework it and make the site look better.
I'm not sure how much access to things he would need but it would be nice to give this place a facelift.

On a side note I have send an email to TE to discuss some of the things mentioned here.
Hopefully I will get a response soon.

AEM needs at least access to the WWW root folder of the webserver, and at least access to one database (correct?). AFAIK only TE (and maybe PKK) can give him that access level. If he also wants to rework on the portal / forum, he needs full access to those folders too, and full forum admin rights (correct?).

Again, kudos for the practical attempts to keep FA alive!

The forum is not that important in itself.

So I shouldn't bother using a web crawler to make a back up of the site? Cause I think I'm about 1/3rd of the way through, already. :P

Main Portals dont require that you have full root access anymore. Even if you would like to give someone like AEM access to develop from the root of the webserver, locking out his ability to edit any other sub would be simple. As far as an SQL Database goes, @#(!, it doesn't even need to be hosted on the same webserver, and if it was, creating a new database and only allowing access to that specific one is simple in security.

Personally I see them as excuses to not develop. Even if you were the most security conscious mofo in history(Striker springs to mind funnily enough) you could allow development on a separate server, and port everything over when done. It was literally how TE allowed me to Design the Trac, I built it all on my server and fired him across the CSS and required PHP changes when done. It took him all of 30 seconds to upload them and implement the changes.

Even more so, if you were really not set on it, develop a site and forward and mask the URL for FAO to the other server, while its not the best option and can completely wipe SEO it would at least allow the site to be more functional and have a higher visual appeal.

Lastly, as for forum rights, none would be needed, unless you are planning on heavy integration, which I doubt. Even allowing a Login bridge for the site and forum would only need backend access while putting them together. No forum admin rights or any other would be required.

I must admit in the past I myself became very disdained at the ability to push new mods through, put I persevered, and eventually got most of what I wanted done. The issue is these days we are all older and have less free time to throw at the game, noone wants to build a new site just to be turned down and have their time wasted. But that could be what is required to get the ball rolling. Do first, request later. If you dont have the time to waste then it could be game over already.

I would love to commit more time to Allegiance, but it is just a time sink I cannot afford anymore. Running 2 small companies with my brother, with a third on the way later this year leaves me with very little time other than to check on the forum and hope someone has picked up the pieces, hopefully offer some form of advice if I have any and check to see if MrC is wearing pants on a regular basis yet...

Allegiance would be fine if we had the old leaderboard back :(
