Try explaining why you would like things set up differently. Don't whinge blame or pout if it is meh. Implying he is stupid is a really poor route to take no matter what do not threaten to hack his @#(! ffs.Fragtzack wrote:QUOTE (Fragtzack @ Feb 12 2015, 04:22 PM) The best hacks are social engineering techniques.
Recommend getting social with Grandpa. Try the direct honey and milk approach.
Try hacking gramps with smooth talk instead of hacking gramps technical stuff.
Trying an end around gramps who is king of that domain will lead to issues like total loss of internet, homelessness and hunger.
You may have to horse trade some additional chores, or really shock him and offer to watch bowling for chickens with him. .. what I'm getting at is you need to give a little to get a little in this world.
Finally this topic is a poor one for these forums. I thought hacking advice was frowned on.

If he's doing it with OpenDNS just change your DNS server to something else.
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/
It's not even necessary to change anything on the router. Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections -> right click on the connection you're using -> properties, click on TCP/IPv4, click properties, and have it manually use a specific DNS.
j0akes wrote:QUOTE (j0akes @ Feb 11 2015, 03:04 PM) Um yeah, I get the ethical issue of hacking the router, kinda, not ethical. But alleg is unplayable whenever someone watches a youtube video.
Default passwords do not work. And I have tried changing my DNS settings on my computer. It seems to be a blocking feature with the router.
Im trying a smurf attack with kali linux and then sniffing the network for potential logins to the router from my grandpas computer.
Does doing this kind of attack over wireless have any effect on potency?

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.
Cookie Monster wrote:QUOTE (Cookie Monster @ Apr 1 2009, 09:35 PM) But I don't read the forums I only post.
It's not DNS that's bugging him but he needs traffic shaping because streaming traffic kills his interactive traffic.

He will know if I put a router in front of his router as he actively monitors what devices are connected to the router.
What is Jtag and serial port whos-a-ma-jiggits.
And busybox = telnet thingy? I tried telneting in but it just times out, I also tried telnet enable and I think im doing it wrong so there is definatly something there. Need more info on hacking this busy box.
Get a job?
Guys seriously, I need serious answers.

Your router won't be connected to his, rather the other way around. There are routers that are also switches and can bridge input to the desired output (so your router's external IP is legit), he won't be tell from the router's software alone that you've put another router in front OR you could put a switch in front and then connect his router (might not be easy if your router also needs to work as a modem).
The busybox thingy means that it has busybox and probably is linux underneath... I wonder what could you do to a machine running an out of date http server... busybox has its own vulnerabilities too.
Ok, putting in your own firmware might be a bit over the top (JTAG and serial port).
You could also copy how the router's web page looks, put it on your own machine, reset the router, change its LAN address, make your computer be on the old router's LAN address, put up your fake server, GG. You could buy yourself a dedicated device (ie: rpi) to do this so your computer doesn't need to stay on.
But yeah, hacking grandpa is definitely safer than hacking his stuff.

Probably putting another router in-front of his would be the best option. I'm just worried he'll physically find it. All the internet junk is right beside him when he's on the computer but IMO that's the best option. Besides being nice which creates this burning sensation inside? Not sure what that is but I'm pretty sure hail satan.
Yo Djole, what kind of hacks are we talking with this busybox thing?
