Get a job, move out, buy your own Internets, plug DIRECTLY into your skull

Honestly, unless he saved or wrote the password down somewhere, in order to get into the router, you will need to have a packet sniffer up and running at the moment he logs in. Probably easier just to keylogger his computer instead.

Honestly though, there might be an even simpler answer to this, the router is a piece of @#(! and literally cannot handle the packet routing of streaming and gaming. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throughput

so first of all, lets start with the make and model of router, the simple stuff often works the best

Netgear R6300 is thee router model.

Today I woke up and the box for the VOIP system claimed to be my default gateway, and no internet connection.
He's spry but not that spry.

And I'm assuming you have already tried to use http://www.routerlogin.net/ with the default admin/password combo?

Who would risk his bed and bread for a slowish game at some time a day? If gramps can work with routers and opendns and has explicit given his opinion... Hrm... Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

The best hacks are social engineering techniques.

Recommend getting social with Grandpa. Try the direct honey and milk approach.

Try hacking gramps with smooth talk instead of hacking gramps technical stuff.

Trying an end around gramps who is king of that domain will lead to issues like total loss of internet, homelessness and hunger.

My son try to do the same thing and I found out later, he is no longer able to get on the internet for 6 months
I unbolt his bed room door so I can check in to make sure he is doing his home work and to let him know that he is no longer have his privately after two months he been honest with me, he got his door back and internet back.
well behave kid after that..
